Is the success of Milroe and Arnold's catchphrase a sign of changing times in college sports?

It’s time to know what’s going on behind the scenes of Alabama football! Once upon a time, when the Crimson Tide was coming off a depressing season in 2022, QB Jalen Milroe and CB Terrion Arnold came up with the phrase LANK the following year. It stands for Let All Naysayers Know, which eventually became the mantra of the Crimson Tide following the surge of doubters and haters last season. But it became more than a motto.

Following a season of disappointment, Jalen Milroe created a LANK apparel line along with Arnold to create NIL opportunities for the players to motivate them. Last December, the duo announced that all Alabama football players can “use their name and number with LANK to generate NIL revenue.” Now, LANK has grown to a whole new level.

Fast-forward to July 2024, this phrase evolved into a whole new product. This time, it’s going to be in motion reel. On3 posted on X on July 30, “NEW: Alabama is releasing a documentary on “LANK” this Friday featuring Nick Saban, Jalen Milroe, Terrion Arnold, and more.”

Alabama football first announced the release of LANK on Monday with a trailer. To add to the intrigue, Nick Saban said about the documentary, “This is what NIL was created for.” New head coach Kalen DeBoer also dropped his two cents on LANK, saying, “The Script-A follows you wherever you go.” So, what’s this upcoming documentary all about?

Directed by Walt Brock and Michael Kulick, LANK also sees the contribution of former and current Alabama personalities as executive producers. These include former HC Nick Saban, former CB Terrion Arnold, current HC Kalen DeBoer, and current QB Jalen Milroe. Now, the point of this release is to remind naysayers who they are.

Have an interesting take?

Many doubters came up mainly after their winning streak last season after a sad loss to No. 3 Texas and a poor show at USF in Week 2 and 3, respectively. As Milroe said on Get Up,I think for us as a team, it’s all about setting short term goals and long term goals. To achieve those goals, we have to take care of right now and push each other to be the best… It’s all about the preparation in the offseason that’s going to catapult us to get there.” The LANK documentary will likely be released on rolltide.com on August 2 as an in-house film.
