Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes is one lucky program as far as loyal fans are concerned, and the flag bearer of the true-hearted tribe is 99-year-old Peggy Coppom. Peggy’s love for the Buffs seems to have melted Coach Prime’s heart, and the Buffs HC made the grand promise for their “CU Royalty.”

However, as easy as it might have been for Sanders to make the promise, the road to fulfillment will not be so easy. ESPN’s analyst Pete Thamel is the man who has popped the bubble that Deion Sanders and Co. have been living in as he exposed the football program’s biggest weakness.

Roadblocks and past trauma that Deion carries

During the spring game, Coach Prime got carried away with his emotions, witnessing his program returning after a terrible 2023 season. With this, Sanders ended up giving a big word to Coppom. He assured her, “Peggy, wherever you are, I love you. I appreciate you and our goal is that we are going to get you to a Bowl game baby. God bless you.” However, there are certain roadblocks that the Buffs HC will face. The College Gameday Podcast host, Thamel, pointed out, “Deion Sanders, game-coaching-wise, cost them two games last year.”

Shortly after Sanders started with a 4-2 record, the program witnessed five of the eight losses. As the 2024 season kick starts on August 29, Thursday, with North Dakota State coming to Boulder, Thamel has exposed the weak areas that Sanders needs to channel his focus.

Even though the Buffs had a 29-point lead in the second half, they didn’t run the ball, bringing Colorado’s poor game management forward. The host further elaborated, “And then in the halftime before Oregon State, they simply failed to manage the clock properly and handed Oregon State a touchdown going into halftime. And those are the types of things that as Deion Sanders evolves as a coach, he needs to get better at.” Meanwhile, Thamel came up with another big claim about Sanders.

Deion Sanders is ‘at fault’ for his approach to back up Shedeur

Here, Thamel seemed to rally the accusation made by the ex-Buffaloes backup QB, Gavin Kuld, who has hit the transfer portal. As Kuld came up with the allegation that he received silent treatment from Shedeur, the ESPN host took the initiative to expose Shedeur’s father. “It’s hard for Colorado to have a backup quarterback. Mainly because Deion came in and insulted most of the ones who were in the room and scared them off. Who wants to go in and back up the coach’s son? You’re not going to play, claimed Thamel.

Backing up Shedeur has been a tough job over the past year. Colorado had one of the worst offensive lines that allowed the QB to be sacked 52 times. On the other hand, Walter Taylor and Destin Wade were pulled in from the transfer portal with very little experience.

Hence, Deion Sanders needs to be extra vigilant about the weaknesses that Thamel pointed out in order to succeed in the long run and land in a finale. No matter who lacks confidence in Coach Prime, Peggy will always be the one to stand beside him.
