The NFL Combine has brought college football players, NFL coaches, and scouts all together. On Thursday, the front seven on the defensive side of the ball stole the spotlight. Among them was former Michigan DT Kris Jenkins who made an impressive run in the 40-yard dash.

The interesting part of his run was that Jenkin’s former HC Jim Harbaugh was in attendance at the event and looked seemingly impressed by his former player. As the new Los Angeles Chargers HC, Harbaugh is on the lookout for players who can run the ball and Kris Jenkins has always been able to impress him even during their time in Michigan. But could the $25 million salary cap get in the way?

Kris Jenkins may not be the biggest tackle but he surely has speed and agility built in him. As Jim Harbaugh watched from the seats, the 299-pounder ran 4.91u in the 40-yard dash, jumped 30” in the vertical, and 9’7 in the broad. As Bruce Feldman reported, the 22-year-old is the “mutant of all mutants” in the words of Jim Harbaugh.

According to Feldman, Kris Jenkins is “super explosive” and “selfless” and is one of the players who “epitomize Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan program.” As the Chargers HC, Harbaugh wouldn’t want to lose this incredible player who played a huge role in the last National Championship Game. But he may have to undergo some tough decisions if he were to sign his tried-and-true Michigan player.

Jim Harbaugh’s never-ending dilemma

From the dilemma of choosing the NFL over college football to facing another player dilemma in terms of salary cap, Jim Harbaugh seems to be in a constant crisis of making big decisions. The Chargers are currently over $25 million over the salary cap. Why? Because they have four of the six players with the highest salaries in the NFL.

New GM Joe Hortiz said, “We’re still working through it. Obviously the cap got bumped up a little higher than I think everyone was expecting.” If Jim Harbaugh wants to bring in new players, he’ll have to sacrifice one of the high-priced players who earn over $32 million – OLB Khalil Mack, OLB Joey Bosa, WR Keenan Allen, or WR Mike Williams. For now, we can only wait to see how the Chargers are going to tackle the salary cap issue.
