After the practice, DeBoer headed to the Naylor Stone Media Room for a press conference to discuss the first official practice of the Crimson Tide. “Full of energy, full of excitement. This came fast, came on fast, and the practice went fast. Really clean. Was proud of our coaches and staff as well as our players just for really understanding the things we were trying to accomplish today. Not just the execution on the football field when it came to running our concepts and our plays but also just the transitions,” said DeBoer as he took up the role officially now.

He then went on to add “It’s new for everyone, and the guys, I thought, just did a great job. You can see the want to, the desire was there through the effort that they gave. I really thought it came together in a nice way.” He also stressed the importance of players looking out for each other, calling it “a big thing when it comes to our practice habits.”

He stated that the team is prioritizing building relationships, practicing games, and establishing those habits. The new HC believes these practices will lead to the development of “championship habits,” and he also expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in this area during the first practice.

DeBoer affirms: Jalen Milroe leads the pack in first-team reps

Alabama fans may be used to seeing Coach Nick Saban, but Kalen DeBoer marks a new change. Many feel that this change might extend to the quarterback position too. Alabama’s QB Jalen Milroe—a returning captain and Heisman contender, took first-team reps during spring practice according to DeBoer.

The new coach was impressed by Milroe’s hunger, along with other players who got first-team reps. However, DeBoer’s offensive system is known for its passing, which opens the door for other quarterbacks to compete.
