2024 is the third year in a row that the Colorado Buffaloes failed to get a player drafted in the NFL Draft. But the tide seems to be changing, even if it’s just an undrafted signing deal. Buffs WR prospect Xavier Weaver can look forward to playing in the professional league.
During his time with Deion Sanders and the Buffs, Xavier Weaver recorded 68 receptions for 908 yards and four touchdowns. He became one of the Top 10 players in program history to account for more than 60 catches and 750 yards in a season. He was a transfer from South Florida, and in his five years of college football, he secured 2,643 yards and 12 TDs. Now, let’s take a look at how his draft went.

Xavier Weaver didn’t participate in the NFL Combine because he was recovering from surgery stemming from a torn labrum, an injury he endured while playing the regular season with the Buffs. But despite his injury concerns, he still managed to impress scouts during his pro day when he ran that 40-yard dash at 4.4, showing that the smooth route runner has speed to his advantage. And he’s not the only undrafted player whom the Cardinals signed.

The Arizona Cardinals have made strategic moves in the 2024 NFL Draft. With their fourth overall pick in Round 1, they secured Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr. They also added Missouri EDGE Darius Robinson in the first round and Rutgers CB Max Melton in the second round.
While the drafted players are undoubtedly promising, the Cardinals’ signings of undrafted free agents also hold significant potential. Following Xavier Weaver’s deal, the team acquired NC State LS Joe Shimko, the 2024 Patrick Mannelly Award winner for the nation’s best long snapper. With his impressive record and Weaver’s undeniable talent, it’s exciting to speculate on the impact these two undrafted players could have in the coming season.
