Caleb Williams Seems to Have the Sixth Sense, Opines Jeffrey Wright After a Notable Patrick Mahomes Comparison

Caleb Williams is the hottest name in the football scene with the NFL drafts approaching. The USC Trojans star impressed everyone with his performance in the 2022 season, which saw him win the Heisman Trophy in 2022. Though he had a sub-par season in 2023, the QB is confident about making the cut at the drafts, so much so that he refused to attend the NFL Scouting Combine this year.

On top of his absence from the trials, he has refused to provide medicals to all teams to avoid hassle. Despite this, the teams are eagerly vouching for him, as they see something special in him. Joining the bandwagon of the scouts is renowned actor Jeffrey Wright, who revealed a major similarity between Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams. 

Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams have one ability in common

Jeffrey Wright was invited to the podcast RG3 and The Ones. In episode #26, the Oscar-nominated actor playing Jim Gordon in The Batman spoke about his movie experiences and award nominations. During a segment in the interview, he also talked about football and Caleb Williams, surprising everyone with his insights on the game.

Wright was in awe of Williams’ talent and even drew comparisons with Patrick Mahomes. He said, “I love his vision. He just has an ability. If you watch his head, just to scan… his head is so mobile like Mahomes does the same thing. His ability to scan danger and find opportunity is just… man, it’s like really exciting, and that too is rare.“

Wright added that most QBs do not have that sixth sense to sense danger. He said, “You see quarterbacks out there, they just don’t have that six sense. Caleb Williams seems to have it and he’s got an arm that’s just like man… I mean unbelievable. He puts that thing where it needs to be.” Perhaps this is why many consider Williams a catch as the #1 pick in the upcoming drafts.

However, the comparison doesn’t end here, as some fans wonder if Williams will turn out the same as Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 draft.

Caleb Williams: A generational star like Patrick Mahomes?

There is no doubt about Caleb Williams’s talent, as everybody has seen his performance at the collegiate level. Hence, many fans and critics back him, while some show a pinch of concern due to his lack of experience, as college football and the NFL are leagues on different levels. So, a question has surfaced regarding Williams’ destiny. Will he turn out to be a generational star like Mahomes or a bust like JaMarcus Russell? Regardless of the opinions from fans and critics, Williams isn’t fazed by the thought as he says, “It’s not a thought in my mind” while preparing to replicate his performance at the NFL.
