After coming from Indianapolis, CB Stephon Gilmore joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 with the intention to start opposite Trevon Diggs in the defense. But after Diggs suffered a season-ending injury, he became the CB starter but now he’s in the open market again. Nonetheless, Gilmore’s desire to return to the Cowboys is apparent in his statement, “I want to come back.”
But it could be a problem for the Cowboys to sign him back, for they’re already $20 million over the salary cap. Besides, they’re not exactly in need of a cornerback, as they’ve got both Trevor Diggs and DaRon Bland. And now, as the rumors of the Baltimore Ravens’ interest pop up, Coach Prime Deion Sanders throws a subtle shade at the Cowboys for not giving the player who wore his No. 21 jersey.

After playing in the NFL for 12 seasons with the last one season with the Cowboys in 2023, Gilmore has entered free agency as he gets surgery for a torn right labrum. Even with his injury, he played every snap with a shoulder harness and recorded 54 solo tackles. The former Defensive Player of the Year has had an illustrious career where he accomplished several achievements, including 5x Pro Bowl, 2x First-team All-Pro, and a Super Bowl win. Coach Prime would want to see more of Gilmore in his former team in Dallas, but it seems like his destiny is taking a different turn.

Analyzing Stephon Gilmore’s NFL future with the Ravens
Even if he doesn’t make a return to the Cowboys, Stephon Gilmore already has several teams where he could fit well. He makes an excellent prospect for the Ravens. According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, Gilmore still has high potential as a CB, allowing an 82.4 passer rating in coverage. The reason why he’s an excellent fit for the Ravens is that the team suffered in the CB position last season due to injuries.

As per Barnwell’s statement, “Marlon Humphrey was in and out of the lineup with various ailments, and Rock Ya-Sin got hurt in the summer and never got back his full-time job.” This made the Ravens turn to veterans like Arthur Maulet and Ronald Darby. With Darby moving to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the CB room remains incomplete and Gilmore could come in like the missing piece.
