A 13-0 team not making it to the playoffs has been a first since the CFP updated their model in 2014. And hopefully, the last time, given their model updation next year. Despite it being the first and the last time, the rage of Florida fans is palpable. Many are loudly advocating for the team, as the team is not getting a ‘deserving’ position on the playoff roster, which is ‘unjust’ for their season-long efforts.

But are the hopes too far too gone for FSU? Not as per Greeny GO. FSU might still stand a chance at the playoffs, and ultimately the National title this year. Which will give them the satisfaction of boasting about in front of the CFP selection committee, if not anyone else.

FSU’s performance at the Orange Bowl is the key

On the Pat McAfee Show, it’s usually McAfee suggesting such things. If not him, then Stephen A. Smith when he is accompanying him. But this time around, it was their turn to listen, as their guest had come up with some interesting calculations for the FSU landing directly in the playoffs. The key factor is the team staying undefeated, for which they will have to beat their opponents Georgi in their upcoming Orange Bowl.

Continuing his ‘dream situation’, the guest continued how everything with other teams would have to play out to get favorable results for Florida. “My dream scenario is that Alabama beats Michigan and Texas beats Washington and in the end the only unbeaten team in college football is Florida State.” Well if we look at it from the numbers perspective, the point seems pretty logical. Michigan and Washington are the unbeaten teams. If they get a loss, then only Florida would be the sharing the pedestal with Liberty to be undefeated champions with no playoff appearance.

This will not only give Florida an edge over each team in the playoffs, but it will also send a loud and clear statement to the CFP selection committee. As it is a season for firsts with the committee, they might even consider FSU to appear for the playoffs. However, given the magnanimous broadcasting rights they will be getting with ESPN and ABC Sports, with SEC teams on their list, the committee will hardly give second thoughts to their decision.

If anything, the team could flaunt their success right in front of their faces. Despite the situation sounding ‘too good to be true’, miracles have a nature of unfolding in this sport.
