Despite being a Florida native, Deion Sanders is a proud Colorado man through and through. Hence, whenever it’s about a Colorado win, Deion Sanders is the first one to celebrate it. This time, it was about a former Buffs guard who wrote his name in the NBA history books by winning the NBA Championship: Derrick White. However, the 106-88 win against the Dallas Mavericks was so much more than just an NBA Championship for the Celtics. This 18th NBA Championship win broke their tie of 17 wins with the Los Angeles Lakers, making them the team with the most NBA Championships ever!
Even though White played with the Buffs in the 2016-2017 season, back when Deion Sanders was nowhere near associated with the Buffs, he took special time to extend his heartiest wishes to White. “Congratulations,” wrote Prime on his X handle, wishing the Celtics guard. While Deion Sanders shared his excitement over the win, his son, Deion Sanders Jr., who is a Dallas native, has swiftly avoided congratulating the Celtics since they brutally defended the Dallas Mavericks.
Congratulations!!!!!

White planned on playing two seasons with Colorado. However, the NCAA had different plans for him since he had to sit out in the 2015-2016. Hence, one senior season at Colorado was all that White got to prove himself for the 2017 NBA draft. It was enough for him. Under the guidance of Tad Boyle, White averaged 18.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

His impressive performance enthroned him as the first-team All-Pac-12 and a member of the five-man All-Defensive team in the season. While his season at Colorado Buffaloes was an absolute hit, his years at UCCA were commendable too. Starting every game during his 3 years at UCCA, he was named All-American in his junior year season with the team. Circling back to Deion Sanders, the congratulatory message might be his way of channelizing his ‘almost basketball player‘ side of Prime.
Deion Sanders wanted to play basketball?
Deion Sanders already boasts a baffling player profile, having professionally played baseball, and of course, football in his heyday. Yet, somewhere, there was a possibility that he would also enter the realm of basketball. There was a chance with Deion Sanders to be drafted as an Atlanta Hawks player.

The reason? Sanders’s relationship with the Hawks’ general manager, Stan Kaste, who was also the general manager of the Atlanta Braves, the team that Deion Sanders played for from 1991 to 1994. “I was drafted twice in baseball. But I was close. I mean really close by. I was really close to playing for the Atlanta Hawks for one game,” Deion Sanders confessed in an interview in 2016.
“He (Stan Kasten) was gonna allow me to play NBA games so that I could play three professional sports,” Sanders further added. While Deion Sanders has unlocked splendorous accolades while playing just 2 sports professionally, the fans can imagine what it would be like if he played 3!
