A couple of weeks ago, Shelomi Sanders wrote on Instagram, “Everything comes to you at the right time.” Midway through the 2022-23 basketball season, she felt it was the right time to switch from JSU in the SWAC to the Colorado Buffaloes in the Pac-12 conference. Although Shelomi may not have gotten her time to shine with the Buffs just yet, things sure fell into place for her team on March 6, 2024.
The No.18 Colorado Buffaloes opened the 2024 Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament with a remarkable win over the Oregon Ducks. In front of the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the Buffs dominated from the start, leading 38-11 at halftime. They extended it to 53-19 by the end of the third quarter. And their dominance resulted in a final score of 79-30, a staggering 49-point margin of victory. However, the team was without Deion Sanders‘ daughter for the most part.
Since transferring to Colorado, Shelomi ‘Bossy’ Sanders has honed her skills, working hard to improve and become an active part of the team’s rotation. In the 2023-24 season, the guard has played in 5 games and for a total of 11 minutes. Two of those minutes came against the Ducks last night, during which she managed to get a rebound. However, for the rest of the game, Shelomi sat on the sidelines, watching the history-making game unfold.

Per Colorado Buffaloes beat writer Brian Howell, “Today’s 49-point win against Oregon was the largest margin of victory for Colorado WBB against a conference opponent since a 50-point win against Iowa State in 1993.” But that’s not all. The Buffaloes set the Pac-12 Tournament record for the fewest points allowed (30) and the biggest winning margin (49). It surpassed Stanford’s 41-point victory over Cal in the 2005 quarterfinals. Needless to say, despite spending most of the game on the sidelines, Shelomi Sanders was a proud Buff. And so was their head coach, JR Payne.

“I’m just really happy with how we played,” she said, as per cubuffs.com. “A lot of people keep asking us, ‘Well, how are you guys doing?’ And my thought is, ‘We’re in a great place. We’re in as good a place as we’ve been.'” Shelomi’s teammate Frida Formann had a stellar night with 17 points, converting five of her six 3-pointer attempts. Quay Miller, too, was a crucial part of the game, acting as the driving force on the floor. Reflecting on all this, Payne added, “We feel good about how we played. We feel good about just where we are and excited to have a great tournament.”
Shelomi Sanders’ “right time” with the Colorado Buffaloes is yet to come, but that hasn’t taken away from her dedication to doing her best for the team. Despite not extensively participating in the historic win, she remains a valued and loved member of the Buffs. At the end of the day, basketball is all about having that chemistry with your team. And what better way to do that than by working out together?

Shelomi Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are taking no time off
In a recent post on Instagram, Shelomi Sanders revealed how much she loved hotels. Hotel stays are one of her favorite parts while traveling with the Colorado Buffaloes for away games. Of course, after competing on court. With the Pac-12 Tournament taking place in Las Vegas, the team is stationed at the MGM Grand. And the Buffs couldn’t help but head to the gym for a workout before their quarterfinal against Oregon State.
Adam Ringler, CU’s Assistant Director of Sports Performance, posted a picture on his story with many of the players on the team flexing in front of a mirror in the gym. Shelomi reposted the photo on her story and wrote, “VEGAS DAWGS.” As the quarterfinal gets ever closer, Shelomi and her team will be looking to continue their momentum, hoping to emulate their performance from last night.
