Before “Coach Prime” and “Prime Time” were ever a thing, it was just Deion Sanders. True fans who have followed Deion’s journey from Florida State to the Ravens, and now in Buffs, would know it took him a hell lot to get to where he is right now. However, all of this might not even be possible if Michael B. Jordan wasn’t there with his valuable advice.
JaKiTruth shared a small interview snippet from Barstool Sports on July 26th, on X. The video shows Deion getting quite open regarding what acted as a catalyst to bring him out of retirement. “When you think you’re in shape, whatever level you think you are at, you gotta go even harder because you’re not there,” Deion mentioned. After Deion’s 3-year hiatus and before he started to play for Redskins, he had called up MJ for some pep talk and that was the advice that Jordan decided to give Coach Prime. Deion and Jordan’s friendship goes way back, and it shows how much Coach Prime appreciates MJ.

The entire Michael Jordan era is something Deion has always been a huge fan of. Back in October, Deion went on to have a candid conversation with the 76ers. “When we came up, MJ wanted that smoke,” Deion said, reminiscing about the good old days and the pure competitive nature of MJ. “A lot of folks duck that smoke,” Coach Prime further elaborated. His perspective is based on the fact that if you take athletes from this generation, they can never compete with players back from the MJ era. However, looking past this, it’s safe to say that we are all glad Deion Sanders did decide to come back to his sport, else we would’ve all missed out on how he’s planning on making Buffs the strongest this season.
The road ahead
While it is true that Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, and Travis Hunter will all be leaving the Buffs after this season. However, Coach Prime has no plans on moving on from Colorado. With NCAA marking, it’s going to increase the total number of scholarships by 20 soon. This would help Deion grab many more young talents from the Buffs. Not only that, Deion has already worked a lot on the team’s overall offense and defense.

With the early transfer portal, Coach Prime managed to grab 6 new offensive linemen for the team to revamp the O-line. All of this has been an effort to make sure that the Buffs do not suffer the same problems from back in 2023. Matt McChesney gave Deion the perfect advice for this season. “Give these skilled players a little bit of time and support by running the football and then defensively being able to get off the field every now and then. How do you lose with a first-round quarterback and the best player in college football?” Matt mentioned, and it looks like Deion is following this by heart.
The main target for Coach Prime this season would be protecting his QB. We all know at this point that Shedeur Sanders tends to falter inside the pocket. This is exactly what made him the most sacked QB last season. Now, only time will tell if this problem persists or if Deion has finally solved it all.
