The USC Trojans’ last defeat against the Washington Huskies was a blow hard enough to crush USC star QB and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. Going 7-2 against 9-0 Washington, USC suffered from poor defense as they lost 42-52 to the 6-0 Pac-12 team. But former USC player OJ Simpson delivers a message of hope amid the disheartening defeat.

Former NFL MVP OJ Simpson began his football career with USC football, with whom he achieved incredible stats during his two seasons. As a Heisman Trophy winner himself, he has an invaluable message for Caleb Williams following the Washington defeat.

Once a football team player, always a part of the team. OJ Simpson began with how he’s been losing sleep for a week over the USC Trojans for their “horrible” play. But despite the devastating 42-52 loss to Washington, the 76-year-old NFL veteran showed in a recent Twitter post that he still stands for USC with a video that reads, “Still love (USC Football).”

OJ Simpson brought instances from his career as a running back for USC in 1967 and 1968. He addressed Caleb Williams to tell him that he was a star USC player himself who had a similar reputation to the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. He went on to say that he led the team to several prominent victories during his two seasons with the Trojans. OJ Simpson became a legend with 1,543 yards and 13 TDs in 1967 and 1,880 yards on 13 carries and 22 TDs in 1968, winning the Heisman Trophy, among others.

But things didn’t end there on a good note. OJ went on to say that “it was a different story” when he was selected as the overall draft by the Buffalo Bills in 1969. He said, “I thought I could make it happen. No matter what the team was like. I’ve broken records. I did everything. But you win with a team.” All that matters at the end of the day is giving the best you can, and he rates Caleb Williams’ effort in the last game as “unbelievable.

Offense-wise, USC outplayed the average with 515 yards, which averages at 8.2 per game. Star QB Caleb Williams gave his best shot, completing 77% of his passes and four touchdowns. But the last game proves that both the team’s offense and defense need to offer equal efforts for a better result.

After the game, Caleb Williams appeared to be crying as he jumped into the first row stands to his mother. Depressed, he stated in the postgame conference, “I want to go home and cuddle with my dog and watch some shows.” OJ Simpson showed his support to the 21-year-old, saying, “Don’t feel depressed, babyYou gave all that you could give. You just lost to a better team.”

It’s indeed a heartbreaking loss for Caleb Williams and the Trojans as the defeat crushes their hopes of the Pac-12 title. They still have two games lined up for this season against the Oregon Ducks and UCLA Bruins. We hope USC will work out their weak spots before they meet their next opponent on Nov. 12.
