Dov Kleiman posted on Twitter the following message: “Report: USC Caleb Williams wants partial ownership from the NFL team that will select him in the 2024 Draft, per @ProFootballTalk.” He also remarks on his similarity to Rodgers, who had once proposed a similar deal for team equity as well.

Just like the legendary A-Rod, Caleb Williams is one of the best quarterbacks college football has ever seen. Recently, New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers tried to secure partial ownership of the franchise in his contract discussions. But before the Jets or people could react, the NFL intervened to say it’s not allowed. As per a report by Sports Business Journal, the NFL has banned players or employees from owning shares with the team, following Josh Harris’ partial acquisition of the Washington Commanders

A possible reason why the NFL has set this rule is that it can create complications with the salary cap. Another reason is that not every team in the NFL is capable of issuing equity and this can cause a rift between teams. So, Aaron Rodgers never got the satisfaction of owning part of the Jets. Even so, he has struck a lucrative deal with the Jets. The deal is that he’ll receive a guaranteed $75 million over a two-year contract with the team.
