Levi Williams has decided to forego his last year of NFL Draft eligibility and embark on a unique and ambitious mission: joining Navy SEAL training. Williams, a graduate junior quarterback, aims to carry on his family’s legacy of military service by protecting this great country. Sports analyst Pat McAfee showered praise for the quarterback’s brave decision. He re-tweeted a post, originally shared by Sports Center, saying, LOVE THIS.”

The young athlete whose mother and grandparents “were Army and Navy,” told The Athletic that, “It’s always been in my heart my entire life.”People in the military are always what I want to emulate, because they’re some of the best people, best teams on the planet,” Williams continued. He expressed his desire to contribute to the nation’s safety and freedom, stating, “I think this is the best country in the world. So I’d like to keep it that way and protect it as long as I can.” If selected, his Navy SEAL training will commence in the summer, with graduation expected sometime in 2024.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 230 pounds, Williams, hailing from Canyon Lake, Texas, will now transition from the football field to the military as he pursues greatness beyond the gridiron. Having joined Utah State after his third year at Wyoming in 2021, Williams had limited appearances for the Aggies in 2022 and 2023. However, his defining moment came last Friday when he delivered an outstanding performance—16-for-27 with 198 passing yards and two touchdowns, accompanied by three rushing touchdowns. Utah State secured a thrilling 44-41 victory in the game, showcasing Williams’s multifaceted abilities. This decision to transition from football to military service adds a layer of depth to his journey, emphasizing his commitment to a greater purpose.
