The women’s Division I college basketball national championship final did not go without controversy. Tempers flared on the court during the clash between the LSU Tigers and the Iowa Hawkeyes and spilled over online post the game. Many called 20-year-old LSU star Angel Reese “classless” for her actions towards Caitlin Clark. That prompted the Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith to jump in to defend Reese and give his two cents on the matter.

The Tigers lifted the Division I title for the first time in program history. They achieved a long-standing elusive goal, but the win got marred by the spotlight on Reese’s conduct. But she found an ally in Smith’s posts and in the online anger of the fans.

Geno Smith shot a fiery response to everyone calling out Angel Reese for showing ‘classless behavior’ in LSU’s NCAA title win against Iowa. According to him, Caitlin Clark will get a chance to talk however she wants on her day.

“The unnecessary shots at the young lady is what makes it more than what it is,” Smith said in a tweet defending Reese.

The LSU star came under fire after she taunted Iowa captain Clark during the dying moments of the championship game. Reese pointed at her ring finger while looking towards Clark, apparently taunting her about the championship ring. While many fans thought that Reese’s actions weren’t in line with the spirit of sports, the NFL comeback player of the year disagreed.

Reese defended her action after the game saying she knows that she doesn’t fit the box people want to put her in. “I’m too hood. I’m too ghetto,” Reese said.

Angel Reese scored 15 points for the Tigers along with 10 rebounds. It was Reese’s double-double number 34. In the end, LSU proved too much for the Hawkeyes even after a 30-point game by Caitlin Clark and the Tigers won 102-85.

Clark finished the tourney with 191 points. The Hawkeyes captain broke the NCAA record for most points in a single women’s basketball tournament held by Sheryl Swoopes of Texas Tech.
