2024 NFL Draft Rumors: Vikings Plotting Trade for Michigan QB JJ McCarthy at No. 4 or No. 5

The prized QB of the Michigan Wolverines is set to make it big into the NFL after an amazing Pro Day performance. He is favored to be a top-6 pick now that his name continues to be on the rise. Amid the hype that surrounds him, this is JJ McCarthy, who is hoping to land with the best team at the NFL Draft.

J.J. McCarthy, the quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, was the pride and glory of his team back in the 2023 season. He played a pivotal role in leading his team to a 15-0 undefeated win streak before finally winning the natty. Now that he has declared for the Draft this season, his name is right behind the likes of Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Thus, it makes sense as to why the Vikings are in such a frenzy to try and pick McCarthy, even if they have to trade for a 4th or a 5th pick.

J.J. McCarthy will be desperately sought after by the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly seeking to sign J.J. McCarthy as the number 4 or the 5th pick. After McCarthy’s phenomenal Combine performance, his draft stock has witnessed a significant increase and as such, a lot of NFL teams have joined in on the race to bring the youngster on. While the Denver Broncos also seem to be a competitive contender, no other team is as enthusiastic about McCarthy as the Vikings.

ESPN’s Matt Miller reported that after being in attendance of McCarthy’s Pro Day performance, the Vikings are severely interested in trading up to sign the Wolverines’ QB. He said, “In talking to NFL personnel while on the road at pro days this week, the feeling is still the Vikings will be aggressive in trading up to the No. 4 or No. 5 spot to land the Michigan quarterback. One general manager I talked to this week said McCarthy is a top-six pick right now. The question is who will trade up to get him.” It is evident that Harbaugh’s prized pupil has a bright future ahead of him but the ultimate question persists- where? With all that said, here are the recent rumors that suggest that Harbaugh might be equally aggressive in making sure McCarthy comes to the Chargers.

Jim Harbaugh is being rumored to bring McCarthy to the Chargers

It was only recently that reports were suggesting that Harbaugh will be trying to pick McCarthy. The fans have always noticed the dynamic between Harbaugh and McCarthy, an equation that surpasses that of a mentor-mentee and more of a father-son. Now that there’s an opportunity to recreate their magic at Ann Arbaour at the Chargers, Harbaugh would not want to let it go.

The ‘Purple FTW’ podcast tweeted, “LA is about to trade the #5 overall pick to the Vikings (the team that teased Harbaugh) to Draft JJ McCarthy (Harbaugh’s de facto son)” If this transfer does go through, Harbaugh would have a top-tier roster on his hands, bettering his chances of winning the Super Bowl in his debut season.
