Shedeur Sanders is in awe of the 2016 Heisman winner! Like any top quarterback, he has his idols, and Lamar Jackson is definitely one of them.
Last weekend, Shedeur joined fellow quarterbacks Cam Ward and Kyron Drones at the Select QB Athletics training camp. They recently dropped their first podcast together, and things got interesting. When asked who they model their game after, names like Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love were thrown around.
The fascinating conversation was captured on Shedeur’s 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders YouTube channel. At first, Shedeur thought the question was about his playing style and responded, “I’m out of this game.” But then he understood the assignment. “Well, I watched the quarterback from Lamar when he was playing,” he said. It looks like no one expected him to mention the Baltimore Ravens quarterback’s name.

Shedeur even recalled a game, saying, “Him back there need help I see him scrambling sideline, I’m in the stands, North Texas game,” and added that Jackson “did out there everything he can.” He also praised how Jackson had “a lot of will that game.” It seems Shedeur is impressed with Jackson’s game against the Texans earlier this year when the Ravens won 34-10.
Jackson ended up winning the AFC North with the Ravens and did it his way. The quarterback is a running machine; seriously, he’s one of the best dual threats on the field. Noting that, Shedeur added, “So you say you model your game after your coach and he had a lot of will that game.”

Have an interesting take?
It’s clear Shedeur admires Jackson’s resilience. And it seems he already showed a glimpse of that willpower last year!
Shedeur Sanders’ grit drove the Buffs last season
Shedeur Sanders is indeed built differently. The guy got sacked a whopping 52 times last season for the CU Buffs! It’s been reported he even needed pain-numbing injections to play further. Now, despite the awful O-line and injuries, he fought hard. Though the Buffs only won four games last season, Shedeur did his best. This is to the extent that even rival coaches are impressed. Nebraska’s Coach Matt Rhule called Shedeur “one of the best football players I’ve ever coached against.” He added, “We blitzed him, I think we sacked him like 10 times, we hit him a ton and he stood in there.” Shedeur was a big reason the Buffs beat the Cornhuskers 36-14.

Even Colorado’s quarterback coach, Mike Sanford, agrees with this assessment of his resilience. “What he said about his toughness. That’s a trait I noticed really quickly,” Sanford said. He even mentioned Shedeur playing injured in the Washington State game. “He sounded like he had at least you know a spiral microfracture or something in his back,” he added.
It looks like the Buffs quarterback is a budding warrior. Maybe even another Heisman winner in the making, for sure!
