Home/NFL

It looks like the Trojans’ biggest weapon might just end up at Brady’s home team. The USC Trojans will be losing their best player to the upcoming NFL Draft of 2024. With Brady being the last of the few good quarterbacks that the Patriots had, there is a good chance that they could now end up with one of the best QBs in the NCAA- Caleb Williams.

Caleb Williams had an unbelievable season back in 2023. The 2022 Heisman winner was on the path to winning the trophy yet again, but couldn’t go all the way since the Trojans lost four of their last five games. Williams threw out a total of 3,633 yards, completed 30 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, and an 82.3 QBR. Now he will choose to forego his remaining year of eligibility and choose to move to the NFL, with the fans already comparing him to the likes of Patrick Mahomes.

Caleb Williams can very well be the next Patrick Mahomes in the NFL

Currently, Caleb Williams is projected to be the number 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft 2024. And in recent rumors, it is being said that Williams has shown heavy interest in playing for the legendary Pats, the same team that molded the 7-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. But with him on track to being the overall no.1 quarterback in the draft, here’s what he had to say about him being compared to Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly the best quarterback in the NFL right now. So much so, that the fans often have debates about the GOAT of football and it usually revolves around the names of Brady and Mahomes. But while the rest of the world bows down at the greatness of Mahomes, Williams has a different outlook on the recent comparisons between him and the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

Williams said, “Everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do. I always said, even in high school – obviously, it’s special – but I don’t think there’s anything that I can’t do that he’s doing out there.” Thus, Williams claims that he can be as good as Mahomes if not better. Putting more emphasis on Williams’ keen interest in playing for the Patriots, is going to be a difficult reality since Belichick’s team has the number 3rd pick in the draft. For Williams to land on the Patriots’ radar, Chicago and Washington both would have to pick other players besides the Trojans’ quarterback, which seems highly unlikely since he is the projected number 1 overall pick.

But it doesn’t look like Williams would be too fond of the idea of being signed with Chicago as was witnessed during the Colin Cowherd controversy.

Does Williams not want to be a part of the Chicago Bears?

The Chicago Bears have the power of holding the number 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft. Following this, the Washington Commanders and the New England Patriots have the power to make their own decisions. With Williams being the number 1 QB prospect, it is obvious that the Bears will end up choosing the 22-year-old. But as per Colin Cowherd, Williams and his team do not want to end up in Chicago.

On The Herd, Colin Cowherd was heard saying, “I do not think it’s possible that Washington trades up and Chicago allows Washington to trade up because Caleb and his group do not want to go to Chicago.” After which, a storm of heat stirred up with the Chicago fans going for Williams’ throat with criticism. This led to Cowherd retracting his words the very next day after Williams’ team contacted the sports analyst.

The next day, Cowherd came on to his show and said, “I got a call from the Caleb Williams camp and they went, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Colin, we don’t want to be painted as anti-Chicago and we don’t want to be painted as anti-Bear. And they made it clear to me that they said, ‘Listen, we don’t want to go to a city that doesn’t care.’ Chicago cares…they’re big, loud, they’re passionate. They fire coaches all the time… and they did say there’s a path to succeed in Chicago.” Thus, with only 66 days left before the Draft, the fans are excited to see where the Heisman contender will finally end up in the NFL.
