Seeing your favorite quarterback not make the top rank is nothing but heartbreak! Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson felt bummed out when he witnessed Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner, being ranked No. 4 on the list of NFL players. While NFL analysts and fans blew the internet apart on witnessing Tyreek Hill beating Mahomes in the Top 100 race, Johnson shared his feelings on Instagram.

However, the Kansas State Wildcats quarterback would hardly have time to shed tears over Mahomes’ loss since he has something important lined up. Johnson’s rising odds have threatened the Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck’s chances of acing the Heisman race.

The Top 100 Players of 2024 list is here. And guess what? This time, the players voted themselves, and the Top 10 was announced on Friday, August 2. It was no less than throwing a curveball of epic proportions. Patrick Mahomes, considered the best, was ranked No. 4 by his peers. The Kansas State quarterback re-shared ESPN’s post, “This is the first time that NFL players have voted for a wide receiver as the league’s No. 1 overall player.

The quarterback seemed to be hardly bothered about whether a quarterback or wide receiver sealed the top spot. What was concerning to him was Mahomes losing the top dog status. He re-shared the post with the caption, “4? huh (crying emoji).” Like Johnson, Mahomes’ revised ranking is a hard pill to swallow for many. The former Super Bowl champion, Damien Woody, voiced his frustration for his fellow reigning Super Bowl MVP, “You lose all credibility when Patrick Mahomes isn’t at number one.” More than Woody, it shocked Johnson, who is preparing for the Heisman race.

Just as the NFL ranking left fans reeling, the current Heisman odds had the same effect on CFB fans. As released by CFB Home on August 3, the top contender, Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck’s odds hit a nose dive. While fans were still making up their minds with Beck losing ground, they failed to spot the Colorado Buffaloes’ dynamic duo — Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.

The craze surrounding the Kansas State quarterback has been so vivid that the program’s coach even started comparing him with the Green Bay Packers quarterback, Jordan Love: “Avery’s got elite speed and is uber-talented. He’s accurate and has great anticipation. The biggest parallel that I see is their hunger to be great at an early age. Jordan had that at Utah State.” After Mahomes ‘ mishap, let’s see if Johnson can be the Kansas State knight in shining armor.
