The prince of the Michigan Wolverines has been in the NFL Draft speculations for a long time now, but it looks like the NFL experts aren’t too happy about it. After a phenomenal Pro Day performance, McCarthy’s name has been inscribed as a top-3 pick in the Draft, much to Keyshawn Johnson’s dismay.

J.J. McCarthy is one of the best QBs to come out of the 2023 class. He led the team to a 15-0 win streak, before finally winning the national championship as well. Now that he’s ready to step foot in the NFL, it’s evident that some would rather him not be a top pick and it looks like Keyshawn is the spokesperson of that group.

On the latest episode of the ‘Undisputed’ show, Keyshawn Johnson had mighty strong words to say about the Michigan QB, J.J McCarthy being the projected third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While there have been a few reservations about him being right behind Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, the former WR for the New York Jets was downright outraged.

Johnson said, “I’m not taking JJ McCarthy with the third pick in the Draft. I’m sorry. I didn’t see anything in college football that made me go, “Oh my god, that’s the number three pick.” Because if you three, then you could be number 1. And if you 2, then you could be one. So you’re telling me that our eyes have told us is that he’s equal to Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels? Because 1 and 3 ain’t far apart, Skip.” Thus, with McCarthy projected to land with the Patriots, it doesn’t seem like Johnson would agree with where the young QB might be heading, but hopefully, McCarthy can surpass his expectations in the NFL. While he’s upset about the fact that McCarthy is the number 3rd pick, he just might blow his fuse if he realizes that a lot of the analysts have projected the QB to be a number 2 pick as well.

Could JJ McCarthy be a number 2 pick in the draft?

While several believe it’s between Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels to take the number 2 spot, a lot of NFL analysts believe the Michigan prodigy to be superior to both players. A popular theory making the rounds speculates that the Commanders might just be picking J.J. McCarthy with their 2nd overall pick.

As per NFL’s Tom Pelissero, “Everybody’s always trying to figure out, especially at the top of the draft, what the other teams are doing. When I’ve had conversations here, with executives from other teams who know [first-year Washington general manager] Adam Peters well, know the situation well, the most popular answer for what they do at No. 2 is J.J. McCarthy.” Thus, it is evident that McCarthy is headed to a bright NFL future, regardless of whether he does that with the number 2 or 3rd pick.
