Dеspitе stating, “I havе not madе a dеcision еithеr way,” Wallеr’s contеmplation of rеtirеmеnt hintеd at a potеntial dеparturе from thе gridiron. With this looming uncеrtainty, thе Giants arе lеft in a prеcarious position, and in rеsponsе, thеy have optеd for a stratеgic approach in thе draft, sеcuring a stablе rеplacеmеnt for Wallеr.
The Giants have selected Penn State tight end Theo Johnson with the 107th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on day 3. Hailing from Windsor, Ontario, Johnson was a standout recruit of his high school and boasts an imposing physical presence at 6 feet 6 inches and 259 pounds. While his statistics at Penn State may not be eye-catching, tallying 77 receptions for 938 yards and 12 touchdowns over four years, Johnson showcased his potential with seven touchdown catches in 2023 amidst a lackluster passing game.

In a post-Waller era, the Giants’ tight end lineup heading into spring practices and training camp would feature Johnson, Bellinger, Manhertz, Stoll, Lawrence Cager, and Tyree Jackson. Moreover, Johnson and Bellinger are likely to emerge as the top two tight-end options for the Giants.
So far, the Giants are doing a great job on their draft picks. They have selected the LSU star WR Malik Nabers, besides Johnson. In the second round, they acquired safety Tyler Nubin at pick 47 from Minnesota and continued to address defensive needs. They picked cornerback Andru Phillips in the third round at pick 70. While they still have a fifth-round pick at 166 acquired from San Francisco via Carolina and a sixth-round pick at 183, it will be quite intriguing to see who they pick for these rounds.
