The NFL Draft is just days away, and Caleb Williams’s landing with the Chicago Bears seems almost inevitable. This Draft has top-tier quarterbacks, and Caleb Williams is a standout. However, with things still uncertain, other teams could swoop in, too.

Everyone’s wondering if Caleb Williams is ready to bring his A-game to a new team. But the bigger question might be — Is Chicago ready for a rising star like him? Recently, Heisman-winner Johnny Manziel and former NFL QB Kurt Benkert analyzed the draft class and questioned whether Williams and the Bears are the right match. Meanwhile, Manziel also has a straightforward yet strong message for the Bears ahead of the Draft.

The seemingly perfect match between Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears might not be so certain. While Williams’ talent is undeniable, doubts about his success in Chicago are swirling. Johnny Manziel, the 2012 Heisman winner, fired a warning shot at the Bears’ front office. According to him, “who they’ve [Bears] got players ready to go out and play the game” is quite important, and “you can’t mess this up.” Also, this Draft is loaded, and they have multiple picks to make it big. Thus, “if you mess this up you simply don’t have hope moving forwards. And you need to figure something else out about who’s running your football operations, to be honest,” Manziel said.

Manziel believes Williams is skilled but questions if the Bears can put him in a position to succeed. Ultimately, even a skilled player can’t overcome a poor team. Thus Manziel stressed again that “if you mess this Draft up, you have so much egg on your face. It’s time to go and get a mop man.” While many saw a perfect fit between Caleb and Chicago, Manziel’s criticism has everyone questioning that assumption.

Is Caleb Williams to the Bears a risky move?

Just because Caleb Williams is a top prospect and the Bears have the first pick doesn’t mean they’re a perfect fit. Williams’ success hinges on finding a system that suits his style. He’s a rising star and needs top-notch coaching, which the Bears lack. Some experts even suggest teams like the Commanders or Patriots might be a better fit due to their coaching staff. Even Deion Sanders has concerns, not about the Bears’ organization, but about the major lifestyle change for Williams. “When you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, okay, I could understand that. But from California to Chicago?” Deion points out.

Meanwhile, the Bears are also taking things seriously. They signed Keenan Allen as WR and they could make more moves to build a team around Williams. But this Draft is a make-or-break for them. If they “mess it up,” they might miss their shot at a star quarterback for years. Thus, they’re feeling the heat to determine if Williams is the correct answer.
