The prince of the Wolverines has a bright future ahead of him, with every team in the NFL trying to seek the youngster out. Once the famed knight in shining armor for Harbaugh’s team, now the very player that could someday take on his mentor’s team. But while all 32 teams would want to draft him, the Vikings are exhibiting a sense of starvation that indicates they want JJ.
JJ McCarthy, the quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, was the pride and jewel of the team back in the 2023 season. He led the team to a 15-0 winning streak before finally helping them pull in a national championship, And after an exceptional NFL Combine and a Pro Day performance, his draft stock rose highly. Now it is because of the buzz around his stock that the Vikings just might choose him despite how much it cost them.

As per a recent report, it is being suggested that the Minnesota Vikings will be compelled to overpay to bring in J.J. McCarthy. Even though the team tried their absolute best to retain their previous QB, Kirk Cousins, he ended up transferring to the Atlanta Falcons. Since then, the Vikings have brought in Sam Darnold to take over the responsibility role. But the team needs a QB that can carry them to a Super Bowl win, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since 1969.

According to the former general manager of the Vikings, Rick Spielman, the team will end up paying a lot more for McCarthy than they should. In his words, “They’re going to have to give [picks 11 and 23] and their 2025 first, plus some more draft capital. I think J.J. will be a good pro, but Minnesota will overpay to get him. At this point, they don’t have a choice.” Thus, with the NFL Draft only 17 days away, it will be interesting to see whether McCarthy ends up donning the purple jersey this year or not. But with all that said, the Vikings aren’t the only team that is in the race to sign Harbaugh.
JJ McCarthy’s rise to glory, a truly awe-inspiring story
Back in 2023, when the Jim Harbaugh controversies came to light, the Wolverines had to suffer months and months of backlash from the same fans who used to throw petals at them. But that isn’t to say that their words necessarily have an impact on the players since they still went on to win the natty. As such, it all adds up that McCarthy is much in demand.

At the NFL Combine interview, McCarthy’s praise for the Denver Broncos sure raised a few eyebrows. His appreciation for the staff and the meeting itself seemed to have left a long-lasting impact on him. But with the Draft drawing inches closer every day, McCarthy will either have to end up with the New England Patriots, the Vikings, the Jets, or the Giants.
