The NFL Draft is a living embodiment of tug of war. First, it was Sean Payton who smirked at each team in the draft by securing a personal workout session with JJ McCarthy. While Sean Payton and Co were just considering moving up after their ‘seemingly well’ Monday session, Brian Daboll and Co, the Giants crew had other plans and announced their trip to Ann Arbor as their attempt at luring away McCarthy for a workout day to turn out successful. Now it was Daboll smirking at Sean Payton. Unfortunately for him, the elation was short-lived.

Now, it’s time for Dan Quinn to enter the JJ McCarthy race with a drum roll. And he’s not playing the cat and mouse games. Having the luxury of the No.2 pick, Dan Quinn is expected to pull the ultimate move directly: drafting McCarthy. Surely, Quinn and Co. have some difficult choices to make in the QB department with the options they have like Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels. Yet, per Eric Edholm of the NFL Network, the Commanders are likely to pick McCarthy at No.2. “It won’t surprise me if J.J. ends up being the culture changer GM Adam Peters is seeking,” Edholm predicted.

It came as a surprise since it was only in the last week that the Commanders were leaning towards drafting either Maye or Daniels. However, with the suave Pro Day moves and explosive NFL Combine drills that JJ McCarthy pulled, it didn’t take him much time to climb the draft board. It was only a couple of days ago that McCarthy overtook Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye in several ranking boards of several NFL teams.

All these steaming developments with about 3 weeks still left for the NFL draft. Of course, several other teams also potentially getting a trade-up or trade-down, all just to secure the player they want. Amidst all the pressure, will Brian Daboll wager his resources to secure JJ McCarthy?

The Giants to potentially trade up?

Daboll knew that getting his hands on one of the most-desired QBs of the 2024 draft class wouldn’t be a breeze. Anticipating some action to come in the days nearing the NFL draft, they were already ready with a solution: a potential trade-up.

According to Albert Breer of SI, the Giants were “asking around” in the NFL Combine week for potential trades. Drafting McCarthy would be a bandage to the Daniel Jones contract wound because, after that, they could get out from under Jones’ contract next offseason after paying a $22.1 million dead-cap charge.

Per several rumors, the Giants will probably move up to No.3 from their No.6 by striking a deal with the Patriots, who are looking forward to moving down. Do you think both of them will get who they want? Or the Commanders will come out laughing over the Giants in the end? Drop your predictions in the comments.
