The NFL Draft brought joy to the city of Chicago as they secured the top player of the 2023 class. While the city celebrates, a notable NFL radio host urges the Bears to temper their excitement and not set their expectations too high. This sets the stage for a compelling debate, with Carmen Vitali offering a different perspective.

The Chicago Bears made a savvy move in the Draft, securing Caleb Williams, the former quarterback for the USC Trojans, as the No. 1 overall pick. The landing of star WR Rome Odunze, a player long speculated to be drafted by the Giants or the Chargers, followed this unexpected acquisition. The duo’s move to Chicago has raised the fans’ expectations, but Carmen Vitali cautions against setting them too high.

On the April 29 episode of the Fox Sports Radio show, Alex Curry and Carmen Vitali discussed the Chicago Bears’ future now that Odunze and Williams will be donning the blue jerseys. While it seems like a moment of celebration, Vitali holds a humble mindset regarding the Bears’ projected success.

She said, “I can’t wait for Chicago to have something to celebrate but I want to caution against having these expectations right away. On paper, yeah, they look amazing. They look like they could contend for the division. They look like they’re a playoff team. I think they will flirt with playoff contention but I don’t want that to be the expectation.” While Vitali sure appears pessimistic about this situation, Caleb Williams had the opposite reaction when he found out that the Bears drafted Odunze, further strengthening the claims that the Bears are bound to be explosive this season.

Caleb Williams reacts to the drafting of Rome Odunze

Williams and Odunze were harsh rivals during their last two seasons with the Trojans and the Huskies, respectively. Later, they developed a friendship in the Pac-12 together and were also seen dapping each other up at the Combine. It’s safe to say that they’re both phenomenal talents who could very well scale the Browns to a Super Bowl game, something which hasn’t happened in the past 17 years.

As such, Williams was ecstatic the moment the Bears picked Odunze. He was heard saying, “Hell yeah! I would have spiked this water if we didn’t have cameras. We got our guy.” Moreover, this is precisely why the Chicago fans have all the more reason to celebrate since the duo of Williams and Odunze might just be the most powerful one yet in this new season.
