Caleb Williams’ Draft Stocks Influence Offseason Domino Effect for QB Market With Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins

With the 2024 NFL Draft season about to unfold, Caleb Williams remains at the center of the plot leading to a domino effect full of twists. And there is no better person to give a rundown on the complex workings of the NFL Landscape than NFL analyst Ian Rapport. 

Taking the fans through the intricate workings of the league, Rapoport explains how Williams’ draft move will have a serious effect on other quarterbacks like Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins. This is in the context of the 2023 season these QBs have had. With Caleb Williams potentially entering the Bears squad, Fields’ position is now at stake.

The Chicago Bears holding the first pick in the draft seem to be poised to select Caleb Williams as their prized quarterback possession. With the speculations going strong, the Bears will be moving forward with a rookie quarterback which would be a cost-effective approach. The estimated contract with Williams is said to be worth a probable $38.5 million.

Talking about the effect of Williams’ draft stocks, Rapoport gives a brief, “He seems to be to me like the first Domino right like if Cousins goes back to Minnesota then perhaps a team like let’s just say the Falcons would be interested in Justin Fields. If the Falcons get Kirk Cousins then I think there’s a couple of other teams maybe it is the Vikings.”

It has been reported that in case Williams moves to Chicago, the Bears are going to ship Fields elsewhere. Hence, his market value is not as strong and the negotiation game will begin. In this case, enters two more competitors who will be part of domino and will be determining Fields’ moves, that is Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson. 

The domino effect goes beyond Fields and Cousins 

Answering the key question ‘Where could Fields land?’ brings into account the domino effect one player has on others. According to the theory presented by Rapoport, the teams up for Fields are the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings among others. With indications that Cousins is breaking ties with the Vikings and with the rumor that he is joining the Falcons, there seem to be open options for the QB. But Atlanta has done more than its fair share of homework on Fields, according to their keen interest in him.

According to the reports, while Cousins is the better quarterback at the moment and stands back in comparison to Fields, as he is much younger and opens up more possibilities with mobility, the Falcons’ interest in Justin Fields just might allow him to find a new home in case of exit before even the talented Cousins.
