Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy has a different excitement brewing this Easter weekend. McCarthy’s stock is soaring after a jam-packed week of pre-draft workouts and meetings. The Minnesota Vikings recently put him through his paces in a private workout, and now the New York Giants are up next.

This intense interest isn’t surprising. McCarthy had already met with the Giants earlier and impressed their brass so much that they sent the GM and quarterback coach to see him throw on Michigan’s pro day. Brian Daboll and Co. are ready to head to Ann Arbor for the quarterback’s private workout. With all this attention, it’s almost certain McCarthy will be a top draft pick. However, the Giants’ strong interest in McCarthy raises hopes that he could be the team’s future signal-caller.

While quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Drake Maye were initially considered the top prospects, recent workouts and media buzz have boosted the stock of others like J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy’s mature playing style and potential fit with teams like the New York Giants excite scouts. This excitement seems to translate into action per the recent update on X. It’s reported, “J.J. McCarthy’s private workout with the #Vikings has concluded. The #Giants will fly to Ann Arbor this Sunday to conduct their own workout with McCarthy. Minnesota will continue to host players until April 17th, which is the deadline for prospects to meet at team facilities.”

The Minnesota Vikings, currently in the 11th pick, must boldly trade up to secure McCarthy at Pick No. 4 or 5. Though quite tough, it’s not completely impossible for the Vikings. However, they still explore other options, while the Giants seem laser-focused on McCarthy.

Giants scout QBs heavily, leaving Jones’ future uncertain

The New York Giants, with the 6th pick in the upcoming draft, are scouting quarterbacks heavily. They are all set to attend the pro days of Drake Maye and Michael Penix Jr. Interestingly, Giants’ Brian Daboll skipped Michigan’s pro day but is scheduling a private workout with McCarthy. This intense focus on him raises intriguing questions about their confidence in Daniel Jones, even after extending his contract. Jones’ injuries lately make them question if he’s the right player for the long run. Thus, drafting McCarthy high could signal the end for Jones in New York.
