This year’s NFL season as well as this year’s NBA season brought on some of the most exciting games the sport has ever seen. In the NFL, fans saw a young boy repping Kansas go all the way with Patrick Mahomes completely dominating the field. He proved to the naysayers that the team was there to win and not just rebuild. Interestingly, the NBA also saw a huge upset with Nikola Jokic beating out players like LeBron James to conquer the league. After his spectacular playoff run, Jokic has begun being compared young QB.

While on the Herd Show, they discussed what it means for Jokic to win the Larry O’Brien trophy. After Jokic won the Finals, Herd and Wright had some intriguing comparisons to make between Jokic and the NFL.

Is the Joker the Patrick Mahomes of basketball?

While on the show, the two hosts spoke about the kind of models different teams have followed in the NBA. They compared the super-team model that became famous after LeBron James and Kevin Durant moved to better teams to win a ring. However, they brought out the contrast between a team like this as compared to a team like the Nuggets that built their chemistry and skill from the ground up.

Wright and Herd spoke about how Nikola Jokic is that star on a team that he helped build the chemistry for. They cited the examples of him playing a very playmaking role even as a center. Furthermore, they went on to compare Jokic to Mahomes and the similarities between the two. The hosts cited the example of how Mahomes was able to bring about an exemplary performance from his team even without the presence of Tyreek Hill on the team.

Interestingly, the analysts also spoke about the different kinds of QBs currently in the league and how their achievements have gotten them ranked in different ways. They spoke about what they believe is the hierarchy among the prominent quarterbacks in the league.

The perceived Mahomes supremacy

While using Mahomes as a comparative example of the best of the best in the NBA, they also spoke about how his greatness in the league. Herd spoke about how Mahomes’ recent accomplishments have made him number one. Wright agreed and mentioned how there has become a disparity between the Mahomes and other QBs. They also went on to agree upon the different options for the second-best QB in the league right now.

Wright also said, “I think Joe Burrow has earned the right to be called the second-best quarterback in football. But I think someone wants to argue Jalen Hurts I’ll listen to him. I don’t think Josh Allen’s in that tier anymore but if you want to argue you can make a compelling case. But that’s where the argument is moved to because the gap between the guy we’re showing video of Patrick Mahomes and every other quarterback I think is bigger than the gap between whoever’s number two and whoever’s number eight.”

All in all, the analysts were overwhelmingly in agreement with Mahomes’ greatness in the league right now. Intriguingly, Wright and Herd made it clear that they truly believed that Jokic is the Mahomes equivalent in the NBA. However, it only remains to be seen if Jokic is able to dominate the same way Mahomes has continued to in the NFL.
