The position of Mike McCarthy as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys has been under immense threat since the end of last season. The Cowboys lost to the 49ers in a disappointing manner in their lone playoff game last season. As a result, there were talks around the franchise about McCarthy getting replaced.
As of now, his position is secure. However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal once wanted Jerry Jones to replace McCarthy with one of the franchise legends. Shaq wanted Deion Sanders to take over as head coach of the Cowboys.

Talking about it, Shaquille O’Neal had said, “I’m putting this out right now. Deion Sanders is the next head coach for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones, this message is from Shaquille O’Neal Incorporated, Deion Sanders, for the next coach to Cowboys.”
He added, “You want the Dallas back rocking. Bring Deion to the fold. Deion will hold those players accountable. Deion Sanders for the next Cowboys coach. Put it out, tweet it, dammit. TikTok it, Instagram it, OnlyFans it, put it out.”
Shaq believes that Sanders will be the best option for the team, as he is a strong personality that players will respect. The Dallas Cowboys’ team doesn’t have any strong figures in their locker room. It is why sometimes they get completely fazed out of games against good teams.

Deion Sanders doesn’t want to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys
Despite the statement by Shaq himself, Sanders doesn’t want to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. As of now, he is focused on coaching Jackson State and wants to make their program better.
Deion Sanders claimed that he isn’t interested in coaching pro athletes. Mainly because even if they aren’t doing their job well, they are still getting paid handsomely. As a result, the NFL Legend doesn’t want to take on such a big job as taking over the team at this point in time.
