Ja Morant has the sporting world worried about him. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar landed in yet another unnecessary headline-making situation. And Shannon Sharpe isn’t the only NFL player who wants Morant to straighten up for what’s at stake.
The Grizzlies suspended Ja after he flashed what looked like a handgun on his Instagram Live. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and 3x Pro Bowler Dez Bryant left a long and emotional note for the 23-year-old basketball wizard.

“You got a $200 million contract and you want people in the NBA to think you’re hood, you gangster. Bruh, you’re not hard. That’s not your life,” Denver Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe had said about Ja Morant two months ago, after Ja’s friend flashed red lasers at the Pacers from an SUV. And here we are, two months later, and Ja Morant faces a two-game suspension after flashing a handgun in a nightclub.
Morant went live in the early hours after the Memphis Grizzlies lost 97-113 to the Denver Nuggets. Ja danced and rapped shirtless while flaunting the gun with his left hand. Shortly afterwards, Morant deactivated his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Dez Bryant cannot believe Morant is wasting away championship-calibre talent with his off-court shenanigans.

“If you know and love Ja Morant, put your arms around him and tell him the truth. Ja, you got a special ability, them other n***** around you don’t. And if the n***** around you loved you, it’s no way you would be flashing that gun. You are a role model regardless if you see it or not. Your name holds weight. Make peace with whatever problems you are dealing with and elevate,” Dez tweeted.
What did Ja have to say about this?
After deactivating his socials, the All-Star point guard released an official apology statement to ESPN. “I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire organization for letting you down,” the statement read. It also announced Morant’s temporary break from basketball to deal with stress and his mental well-being.

While Nike cut their ties with Kyrie Irving after his controversial anti-Semitic documentary share, they have not taken a similar route with Ja. In their official statement, they applauded Ja for taking a break and focusing on his recovery. “We appreciate Ja’s accountability,” the statement read.

The Grizzlies are currently second in the west. However, they will probably face a tough time without their ‘Ja-dropping’ guard in their next two games in Los Angeles, against the Clippers and the Lakers. The former Rookie of the Year will rehab and look to get back to his winning mindset in the meantime.
