History repeats itself. However, it happened sooner than expected for Memphis Grizzlies’ superstar, Ja Morant. After making the headlines with his gun-flashing incident on Instagram Live a few months ago, Morant has repeated the exact antics, only this time, it’s in a car. While the repercussions pile on, former NFL defensive end and Pro Bowler Marcellus Wiley painted a picture of exactly how much Morant’s childish antics are beating down on his bank account.
Wiley didn’t even bring up the fines and consequences of this week’s IG live. The whopping monetary loss Ja Morant incurred after his first gun-related misdoing was enough to stop any future deviations on the same road. So how much of a hit did Ja Morant suffer because of all the antics?

Every time Ja Morant flashes a gun on Instagram Live, the Memphis Grizzlies organization suspends him for a stipulated time period. This time, the suspension is from all team activities, pending a further league review. The first time, after the incident at a Colorado strip club, the suspension was for 8 games, during which he missed the crucial selection to the All-NBA team. This was a hefty setback given the huge All-NBA team selection bonus in Morant’s 5-year $194 million contract.
“Now it’s starting to mess with your money. It ain’t funny when it’s messing with your money or your honey. $39 million contract bonus. He could have had that if he played those games and did not go through the suspension. But that’s gone. Money gone that you will never make up. You may make a lot of money. Whatever you end up making. $2 billion. You could have $39 million more,” Marcellus Wiley said.
As per Celebrity Net Worth, Ja Morant is worth nearly $50 million, with an annual salary of $38 million. That makes the $39 million missed bonus a near-about 80% hit in added value.
This will certainly be a thing to regret for the 23-year-old point guard.

Morant back to his antics
Days after the first gun-flashing incident went viral, Ja Morant appeared in a public interview with Jalen Rose and apologized for his actions. Morant even attended a rehabilitation program before returning to finish the remainder of the 2022-23 NBA season. However, it’s all back to square one as Morant let some steam out after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA playoffs.
Morant has received some support from fans claiming that his suspension was unfair. According to them, he was well within his rights to display a gun that he legally owns inside a vehicle that belonged to him. However, the matter of young fans getting inspired the wrong way always works in the back of the association’s mind.
