Ja Morant’s fall from grace is on its path to becoming a historically studied event. After all the headlines, accolades, and praise, Morant has thrown his career into the blender over the past few months with his off-court shenanigans. Even die-hard Morant fans will have trouble justifying the actions and repercussions of his deeds. And, even after apologies, some do not believe that he will abide by this in the future.
Coming right after Morant’s gun-branding actions, just a couple of months ago, had offset the Grizzlies’ season, and many had high expectations from Morant. But now, fans and pundits across the sports world have turned their back on Ja. Even Lebron James’ biggest fan, and the outspoken Shannon Sharpe has called out Morant.

Ja Morant was on Instagram, and his fumblings struck once again, catapulting his career into jeopardy. After brandishing a gun on IG Live, Morant is in serious jeopardy of being suspended for a large part of the upcoming season. But what triggered fans and media even more is the seemingly ‘fake’ apology issued by Ja Morant.
Many, including NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, called out the Grizzlies star for his apology note, which seemed to be ripped off from the AI application, ChatGPT. As Shannon told his Co-host Skip Bayless on ‘Undisputed’, “Skip its an AI generated (apology) … So unless it’s, in order for an apology, it needs to be sincere and it needs to be in your words.”
Bayless agreed with Sharpe as the HOF TE continued to express his disappointment in Morant’s actions. “Skip they’re gonna punish him because he didn’t learn his lesson. He couldn’t even wait two months,” he added.

As most might know, this isn’t Ja’s first run-in with breaching league protocols. Although it isn’t illegal to brandish a weapon as Ja did, the NBA’s player protocol dictates otherwise. Some pundits, like JJ Reddick, have come out in defense of Morant, but given the star’s troublesome history, it’s difficult to pardon his continued falterings.
Morant had served a suspension just over two months ago when he similarly brandished a firearm on his own Instagram live stream. Although his punishment was relatively less in comparison to league protocol, Morant had certainly received his fair share of warnings.

But his latest infraction could see the star missing well over half the season. Even his most ardent fans have certainly been left disappointed by the former ROTY and Most Improved Player from last season. Thankfully for Ja, the only way out, is up (hopefully).
