Former 2-time NBA champion Kevin Durant is a one-of-a-kind player that every NBA franchise would welcome with open arms. During the 2016 NBA free agency, the former Oklahoma City Thunder small forward was gauging the free agency market. Among the interested NBA teams were the Boston Celtics, who summoned the greatest icon from the area.

Among some of the high-octane courtships around the NBA, Tom Brady was the ace up the Celtics’ sleeve. The first meeting was dazzling for Durant, admitting to being starstruck later to the reporters. While talking to the Boston Herald in Las Vegas during the NBA Summer League, Durant stated, “I was ready to just say, ‘All right. Let’s go. I’m ready to go,’ seeing Tom Brady there. Just seeing someone so successful at his craft and just a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston, it was just great to be in the presence of greatness.”
But he added that while he was privileged to meet the then-Patriots QB in Boston, he will always strictly decide on basketball. Durant rattled the entire league shortly after signing a 2-year deal with the Golden State Warriors. While the Brady attraction didn’t work in 2016, the Celtics might find their answers to why it failed in 2020.
Kevin Durant doesn’t recognize Tom Brady as the GOAT in the NFL
While Durant became a major terror in the NBA following his trade in 2016, Brady also went on to enhance his legacy in the NFL. Despite winning Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, Durant doesn’t consider Brady the undisputed GOAT. The Brooklyn Nets star believed Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to be the NFL GOAT.

Durant also shared his happiness when Rodgers won the 2020 AP NFL MVP award on Twitter by posting a goat emoji. However, the legacy of Brady and his NFL career is tough to argue against Rodgers.
But the former Warriors star seems to have a clear favorite in mind when it comes to the NFL.
While naming Rodgers as the NFL GOAT is a controversial take from Durant, Brady and his 7 Super Bowl wins seem to hold against the Packers QB. The talent of both NFL QBs remains undisputed as both have shown their qualities over the years. As Durant continues to work towards proving himself in 2022, Brady will be doing the same again in the upcoming season.
