The NFL world has been quite obsessed with the life and times of Tom Brady. Brady’s continued excellence over the years has made fans emulate everything from his fashion sense to even his eating habits. Tom Brady treats his body like a temple and a major part of that has been his diet. Despite famously aligning with veganism, Brady hasn’t fully given in to the mission. It seems he has a soft corner for Chicken Sandwiches.
While Brady dominates the NFL world, a fellow MLB legend enjoys a similar degree of attention. Both Tom Brady and Derek Jeter have drawn criticism for their involvement with Subway commercials. But for what reason? Athletes aligning with brands has been one of the norms of modern-day marketing, so why these two legends are catching strays?
Brady’s double standard or a wrong interpretation?

Back in 2021, Tom Brady went on to partner with one of the biggest sandwich brands ever, Subway. The commercial started with Brady uttering the words, “As well noted, your boy isn’t the biggest bread guy”. Well, people at the time appreciated Brady for his honesty, but the absurdity of him actually promoting something that he absolutely refuses to eat just makes one question the legitimacy of his claims.

Now years later, another angle of the commercial has come up. Brady indulges in veganism, so why he is promoting a meat-based sandwich?
It's not believable when Tom Brady was doing commercials for the chicken sandwich and he's a vegan. I don't believe Derek Jeter eats at Subway any more than I believe he drove a Ford

Well, in Brady’s defense, the man never claimed to have bid farewell to all meat-based products. In fact, he never even conformed to the laws of veganism. Brady’s diet has been a derivative of the 80/20 rule, meaning animal-based foods make up around 20 percent of his diet, and whole, plant-based foods make up the rest 80 percent. Brady has termed the plant-based diet “commonsensical,” and primarily depends on plant-based nutrients, even partnering with the vegan meal kit Purple Carrot.
At the age of 25, Brady’s body gave him the signal to make changes. The QB was regularly suffering from intense body pains and knew something had to change if he wanted to continue showcasing his greatness. Thus, came the change in his eating habits. Brady credits a lot of his success to his dietary restrictions, and while the same may not be perceived from his commercials, his performances definitely solidify it.

Another GOAT in a similar boat
Tom Brady isn’t the only elite athlete to be questioned about his choice of partnerships. MLB legend and New York Yankees GOAT, Derek Jeter, has faced similar criticism. Jeter along with NBA star Stephen Curry and NFL legend Rob Gronk also partnered up with Subway, revamping their marketing bids.
Unlike Brady, Jeter wasn’t scrutinized for not being sincere to the message, but rather for his own personality. Jeter has been perceived as a tough guy, a nonchalant businessman, and a champion over anything else. Maybe these were the reasons that fans couldn’t accept Jeter selling sandwiches to the masses.

Subway wasn’t the only brand, fans had a problem accepting Jeter with. Earlier, Jeter’s commercial with Ford Mustang drew similar flak, as fans couldn’t align someone like Jeter driving a Mustang of all things.
