Last Friday, a Pennsylvania high school match was canceled when Mason Martin was playing against Redbank Valley School in Butler County. During the match, in the third quarter, Martin suddenly began to feel discomfort, a concern initially observed by the referee, Mike Vasbiner. He said, “I had to talk to him, and when I asked if he was alright, he told me, ‘No.” This is when he realized that something going was wrong with him.

After a while, Martin lost consciousness and was promptly taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh via helicopter. He was suffering from a brain bleed and collapsed lungs, which led to his unconsciousness, which was confirmed by his mother.
