Uncertainty still haunts Colin Kaepernick‘s return to the National Football League. The former quarterback is one with experience, however, after last playing with the San Francisco 49ers, he has not come back to the field for more than 6 years. That one reason is enough to impact Kaepernick’s comeback.

Recently though, Kaepernick expressed his interest in joining the New York Jets through a letter. That undoubtedly resulted in various varying opinions. Some support the former QB’s acceptance into the Jets’ team for the assets he can provide and some deem it completely impossible. Thus, the same was proven in The Pat McAfee Show, and Kaep’s comeback with the Jets now seems to have poor prospects. How so?

With Kaepernick’s letter to the Jets grabbing the spotlight, it becomes an important discussion to delve into his chances of getting accepted. While Pat McAfee suggested that Kaep could be a great addition to the Jets either as an advisor or a backup QB, one of his co-hosts stated the cons about the situation. As a matter of fact, he was not all wrong.

The Jets had Tim Tebow, and he was just a PP. And like you saw the media circus around him every single day, there’s just no way you can avoid that and obviously the timing of this and everything… like the Jets went out and signed Trevor Siemian. It’s like ‘Hey, we’re moving on, we got a guy’ like it’s just not gonna happen. It’s unfortunate but I just, especially in that market, don’t know how he could go there and have it not be a big deal.”

Undoubtedly, with the Jets signing Trevor Siemian as the backup QB to Zach Wilson, Kaepernick’s prospects with the team seem difficult. Not to mention, it adds to the list of factors hindering his chances of getting on to the team.

Colin Kaepernick vs. the obstacles in his path

Kaepernick in his letter to the Jets, stated that he does not wish to compete with Zach Wilson and is even accepting of a backup position. The former QB has also requested to lead the practice squad. The position of the backup quarterback might be less likely for Kaepernick to achieve with the veteran Siemian on the team.

Very obviously, the new veteran stands above him with more experience. Kapernick’s several years of hiatus have the potential to hinder his chances on the team. As per a report, the Jets may have been pondering over Sieman as the backup before even receiving Kaep’s letter. Considering his request was made public before the new veteran’s signing was announced, that might actually be the case.

Even though Siemian is already signed as the backup, it does not necessarily mean that the Jets are completely uninterested in Kaepernick. It does get less likely for him to be on the team but there are possibilities that some other team or the Jets themselves could sign him as they see him fit.
