You know watching Fox NFL Sunday is quite fun. You get to see Terry Bradshaw, and Curt Menefee with analysts Howie Long, but I found Michael Strahan a bit underrated. He’s the dude who smashed the single-season sack record back in ’01 and turned ‘Good Morning America’ into a can’t-miss show. Strahan once said, “This is who I am. I’m not perfect. I don’t want to try to be perfect.” And honestly, that’s what makes him perfect for every gig he’s ever had.
Michael Strahan used to play as a defensive end for the New York Giants his entire 15-year career. Off the field, he’s transitioned smoothly into a media personality. And with that, he’s been into space with Blue Origin in 2021. But there’s more to him, especially to his personal life. And he’s had some history with both his wives, Wanda Hutchins and Jean Muggli.

So, who’s Michael Strahan’s first wife, you ask? Meet Wanda Hutchins, the woman who captured Michael’s heart when they were just a couple of teens in Germany. Yup, you heard that right. They met at an American school overseas and kicked off a whirlwind romance that led to marriage in 1992. Wanda and Michael started their family young, welcoming their daughter Tanita and son Michael Jr. early on. Despite the challenges of a budding NFL career and the demands of married life, they built a life together across continents.
During an appearance on In Depth with Graham Bensinger in 2023, Strahan opened up about Wanda. He remarked, “My first marriage with Wanda, we were just young. She’s one of my best friends to this day. I love her to death. I have two great kids.” He said that they were young, playing the role of adults back then, a setting which withered within 4 years.
Fast forward a few years, and the young lovebirds went their separate ways in 1996. In the same interview, Strahan said, “Wanda and I decided that while we would no longer be married, we would always be family.” But here’s the kicker—they never let their split mess with their kids’ lives. Michael has always praised Wanda for her dedication, and they’ve managed to keep things cool, co-parenting like champs. Wanda eventually moved to the States, diving into interior design and running her own biz, ‘Wandaful Home Design‘. The respect and bond they share, even post-divorce, is something Michael often reflects on.
Strahan’s Second Wife: Jean Muggli
Strahan’s second wife is Jean Muggli. They met in a salon back in ’99, and sparks flew right off the bat. Before you knew it, they were walking down the aisle that same year. Their love story brought them twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, in 2004. Life seemed pretty sweet with Michael balancing his NFL career and his role as a dad and husband.
But like any story, it had its bumps. In 2006, their marriage hit a rough patch, leading to a pretty messy divorce in June 2006. Jean was eventually awarded $15.3 million as well as $18,000 a month in child support, which was later reduced to $13,000 after Strahan’s retirement.
There were some serious accusations thrown around, but Michael always maintained his stance, saying he could never harm his loved ones. “Personally, getting divorced is probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever gone through but it was also a learning experience and I learned a lot about myself and I learned a lot about a lot of the people who were around at that time and some aren’t around anymore,” Strahan said during an interview in 2016.

Despite the drama, they’ve worked hard to co-parent their girls. Jean continued to be a dedicated mom, and Michael often shared glimpses of their family adventures.

In October 2023, Isabella received a brain cancer diagnosis, making it one of the toughest times for Strahan. Imagine the heartache. She went through chemotherapy, and by August 2024, made a full recovery. Talk about a warrior. This whole experience really hit Strahan hard, and he’s been super open about how it changed his perspective on life. Isabella didn’t let cancer slow her down, though. She bounced back, went back to college, and even joined the Delta Gamma sorority. She’s currently pursuing her journalism degree at the University of Southern California.
Apart from this, Strahan is also hosting, The $100,000 Pyramid, the popular game show. And get this—he’s set to drive the pace car at the 2025 Indianapolis 500. Not bad for a dude who’s been to space, right?
