Being the son of an NFL legend comes with a lot of expectations! And, the same goes for Randy Moulds, Eric’s son who had made quite an impact when playing at MSU back in 2011. Eric’s athletic legacy is very dynamic, as he excelled in both basketball and football. However, he honored his father’s choices by choosing football. Becoming a standout WR at MSU, with All-SEC selections, he became a first-round NFL Draft pick in 1996.

Over 12 seasons in the NFL, he became a three-time Pro Bowler, for which he always credits MSU. As he operates a training facility in Charlotte now, he takes to mentor young players. And given his connection to MSU, he finds his son, Randy Moulds association with MSU quite satisfying.

However, there is a contentious history regarding the parentage of Randy Moulds. In the legal case of Moulds v. Bradley (2001), involving Eric and his son, Randy Moulds, born to Bridget Bradley, it dwelled on the enforcement of child support obligations.

Back in 1996, the court had stated that Eric was Randy’s father, and he was ordered to pay child support, which he failed to increase after entering the NFL. As he was the non-custodial parent, he was ordered to reconsider the support amount.

Despite this, the father-son duo share a loving bond. Eric continues to guide him in whatever decision Randy takes.

Is Randy Moulds ready to follow in his father’s footsteps?

In high school, unlike his dad, Randy played in defense. Hence, transitioning to a WR was quite a challenge for him. He stated in the same article with BulldogBlitz, “Learning to run route and play offense was all new to me.” In 2010, he made the decision to brace himself for the SEC by redshirting his freshman year.

Eric was constantly present, guiding his son. During the summer, he worked with Randy, as he further stated in the same article, as he “just helped us learn how to run different routes and taught us different things.” During the 2011 season, Randy recalled how he was putting in extra effort to get a bit of fame for himself. However, he knew that it would come at the expense of comparisons with his dad. But, Randy was adamant about building his own identity.

Even for Eric, as he watched Randy wearing the MSU uniform, he was quite pleased. In the article by State, published in 2022, he recalled his MSU days, adding, “It was special to watch your kid follow in your footsteps.” He further stated,  “As a dad, I’ve never put pressure on my kids to follow in my footsteps. My only rule was if you start it, you’re going to finish it.” And, indeed, it helped Randy push himself to achieve great heights not just for himself but his dad as well.
