If you ever wondered how influential Jones’ family is, here’s one way to see it. The mayor of Arlington wanted to secure a bid when the National Medal of Honor Foundation was in a hunt for a location to build a museum. They have narrowed down their choices to either Arlington or Denver. So, who did the mayor decide to dial? Cowboys executive VP and chief brand officer, Charlotte Jones. In response, Charlotte jumped into action, and the offer she had for the foundation president was nothing short of spectacular. Here were her conditions.
For the president to opt for Arlington right away and see a quick turnaround as the Cowboys facilitate more visibility to them, and by quick, she meant the then-forthcoming weekend’s Cowboys-Packers game. But the winning move was when she promised a visit by former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush at the same event. Charlotte, who’s now the chair of the museum board, laid it out plain and simple: “We can (pull this off) if you agree right now. I’m not about to call the former president if you don’t say we’ve got this.” SOLD! Now, this was four years ago. And here’s why we are still talking about it.
The partnership didn’t just happen in kind. In fact, in addition to publicity and getting national attention, this was a $20 million commitment from the Joneses, who pushed the total funding to a whopping $70 million to build a home for 3,507 American heroes who dedicated their lives to the country. Now, the vision has turned into reality with the National Medal of Honor Museum officially opening its doors on March 25. Charlotte laid the foundation of the Medal of Honor Museum, saying, “Your stories will now come to life for generations of visitors, inspiring them to act with courage in their own communities.” Even Troy Aikman was moved and couldn’t keep his eyes away for too long now, could he?

In the post where Charlotte wrote, “After a five-year journey and decades more for many recipients, I was humbled. Honored and proud to be a part of the incredible ribbon-cutting celebration for the National Medal of Honor Museum.” Aikman commented, “Amazing,” adding a red heart emoji and American flag to his reaction. Make no mistake—this museum isn’t another war memorial or a military museum. Its purpose is to serve as a narration through the lives of ordinary people who did something extraordinary to serve their country.

This museum will have more than 100,000 square feet of open space. Having specified areas for classrooms, meetings, memorials, and ceremonies. And to add a cherry on top. It will feature 31,000 square feet of artifacts, interviews, and stories from Medal of Honor recipients to add a breathtaking viewing experience. Now, you might be wondering what the real purpose behind this Medal of Honor Museum is. Well, to lay it down for you in simple words.
Out of the 40M Americans who have served in the US Army since the Civil War—less than 4,000 have only received the Medal of Honor (highest military decoration). With only 61 of those living today—this museum was long overdue. “After decades of dreams, the Medal of Honor and its recipients will now have a proper home, where the values of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism will be preserved and shared with future generations of Americans,” said Maj. Gen. Pat Brady, who received his Medal of Honor back in 1969.
Brady once flew three different Huey helicopters, risking his life under a hail of bullets in 1968 Vietnam. By doing so, he rescued 51 people. And, now, his Huey helicopter lies as the centerpiece of the attraction in the museum. All of this probably wouldn’t have been possible without the Jones family leading the charge themselves. And to witness it all, they also had the face of the franchise in attendance.
