Out of many NFL play-by-play announcers on Fox Network, Troy Aikman owns a special place. Jerry Jones took over as the Cowboys owner in 1989 and chose Aikman as overall first in the 1989 NFL Draft. The former QB had brilliant success, winning 3 Super Bowls along with MVP. Since he departed the gridiron, various other ventures opened for the quarterback. He and Joe Buck became the longest-tenured announcer pairing in NFL history. However, he still faces problems in the booth.
During his appearance on the December 26 episode of Sports Radio 96.7 FM, the Cowboys legend opened up on his broadcasting career. The ESPN announcer sent a strong message that was, “I would not put at the top of the list the part of the job where at times you have to be critical, or at least opinionated about what’s happening on the field, but there’s a lot that happens in a broadcast booth.” There have been instances where he was critical of the players on the field.
We saw it firsthand during the week 15 game between the Bears and Vikings. Aikman criticized the Bears’ rookie QB Caleb Williams when it was WR Keenan Allen who could not hold a direct pass. But the fans got angry when he called one of the Williams’s passes the worst and exclaimed, “That’s the worst pass I’ve ever seen in my life.”

So, we might have the answer now. The former Cowboys QB admitted that he also could make mistakes. And the fans should understand that aspect of analysis too. However, he assured everyone of his sincerity towards his job as an announcer and added, “I try to do it in a responsible way.”
That’s the spirit fans like to see. But there was a time when he could have been in the league instead of watching it from a TV booth. But his family responsibility became a hurdle.

When he played in the NFL, the QB showed immense talent. So it’s hard to believe he never thought about being a GM. He answered this in the interview and revealed, “I wouldn’t say the desire is gone, but I think the opportunity is gone.” But he is not the one to become grumpy about this. He expressed happiness over his current life before adding, “I don’t think I’ll ever get the opportunity, and that’s okay.”
That’s how life happens. After retiring from the league, he got a little too busy in his personal life. We all know being a General Manager of an NFL team requires a much more tense approach than being an announcer. He also understands it. Him being a single father also puts some extra responsibilities on him.

There was no financial requirement to pursue the job aggressively. NFL GMs make an average of $3 million per year. And being a known face across the globe, he already made enough to live a luxurious life. It’s a chapter that might not get opened again.
