Is Jared Goff the unexpected MVP contender the NFL world didn't see coming this season?

The Detroit Lions are on fire this season. After their latest 31-29 win against the Minnesota Vikings, putting an end to their perfect run, the Lions are now standing tall at the top of the NFC North with a 5-1 record. Their offense with Jared Goff has been top-notch so far. The QB’s illustrious performance has already made him a possible MVP candidate. Following his performance on Sunday, the 7x Super Bowl winner Tom Brady has lauded the 3x Pro Bowler for his contribution to the team’s success this season.

In the latest episode of “Let’s Go!”, Brady dished out on the former Rams QB’s performance so far in the last 7 weeks. The legendary QB lauded the 30-year-old  for his work so far saying “he has done a great job”.

Brady then went on to add, and said, “He’s accurate, stands in the pocket, and makes the throws. He knows he will not run around like Patrick or Lamar or Josh Allen, but he’s going to read the coverages out, he’s going to make the decisions, he is very accurate throwing that ball down the field, he has got receivers who are getting open. It’s just a good formula for winning”.

Indeed, Goff has been spectacular. Overall he is 125-of-174 with a 73.6% completion rate, along with 10 TDs and 4 interceptions for 1603 passing yards. In Minneapolis against the Vikings, the ex-Rams star had a near-perfect 88% completion rate, with 2 TDs, no interceptions, and 4 sacks for 280 passing yards.

As they move for further into the season, the Lions will host the Tennesse Titans at the Ford Field stadium on Sunday. HC Dan Campbell will surely hope that the team’s dominating offensive show continues and would urge Goff to continue his MVP-worthy performance for the rest of the regular season, as they are currently in contention and seem to be a frontrunner for making it to the playoffs this season.

NFL analyst backs Jared Goff for MVP contention

NFL analyst Rich Gannon has backed Jared Goff for MVP contention following his impressive performances in the past few weeks. In the world of Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Jets’ Aaron Rodgers, Goff has been doing great so far this year, helping his team move ahead in the season successfully.

After their dominating performances, Gannon lauded the Lions as the best team in the NFL right now. He pledged his support to the 30-year-old QB, mentioning that he “deserves to be the MVP favorite”. Talking about his performance, the analyst said, “If you look at Goff’s last three games, he has been nearly perfect. I think he goes half or three-quarters with an incompletion. You know he had the perfect game a couple of weeks ago, it was 18 of 18. I mean he is in rhythm right now”.

Gannon further mentioned that the one thing that we don’t credit Goff enough for, is his toughness. He said, “The QB doesn’t look like a tough guy but he is. And this guy doesn’t miss starts, look at his body even going back to his Rams’ days. This guy goes out and plays consistent football, week in and week out. I have my renewed respect for him.”  Apart from praising Goff, the analyst also lauded the whole Lions’ offense for their performance this year. And called them the “best offense in football”.
