Brady’s evergreen charisma makes him always stay in the headlines, but not always for the best of reasons. Currently, Brady is going through the ‘bad phase’ after his comment about the NFL being ‘mediocre’ of late became the hot target for many analysts. Pundits around the world started taking a jibe at the legend for his harsh words.
Retired veterans like Shannon Sharpe, too, agreed with the critics on Brady’s hypocritical stance. Surely, the change in rules made the players dial down on the aggressive moves as it was requisite for their safety. This wasn’t to say that said ‘bad habits’ haven’t been formed due to this as per Brady. Well, many were quick to jump in on the discussion.

Bringing out the essence of his character, Jason Whitlock was not one to follow other’s suit. Rather, the ‘Fearless’ host decided to stand up for the other side of the debate. Contradicting the statements of the ‘Come Talk 2 Me’ show guests, Whitlock shared his blazing statement. “He was saying this stuff while in the league, okay?”
Whitlock even presented why the alleged ‘hypocritical’ statement would directly affect Brady’s further career. “This guy’s got like a $350 million contract with Fox Sports where next year he’ll be allegedly on TV promoting the NFL and he’s calling out the product in real-time.” While this argument was enough to shut everyone down, he still felt the need to explain how the comment was directed towards the players, and not the sport. As per him, the players want the easy way out. Whitlock and Brady were not the only ones to say so.

Gronkowski and A-Rod also jump to defend Brady
Whitlock was not the only one to shield Brady’s comments from the harsh connotations. The people with whom Brady shares the title of ‘Legends of NFL’ were the ones to clarify the uncertainties around the ‘mediocre’ comment. Rob Gronkowski, in his recent appearance in ‘Up & Adams’, made his stance clear. Assuming a more diplomatic stance on the sensitive topic, as compared to Brady’s uncoated words, Gronk said, “I would just say the consistency of the game, the product of the game going out there every single weekend, isn’t up to par with where it should be.”

Gronk was joined by Packers QB A-Rod. Expressing his dilemma regarding the controversy on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’, Rodgers believes it’s the perception of the public to blame. “I think people want to see football be a collision sport,” expressed Rodgers. The audience enjoys some big hits, however, the modified rules stand to be essential for player safety. At the end of the day Brady’s take while insightful still poses a nuanced question as to how the sport has evolved over time to perhaps protect the players more than be a spectacle of aggression.
