Kurt Warner‘s voice carries weight these days. When he speaks, people listen. Not long ago, the Hall of Fame QB took to social media with a concern that’s been bugging him: college players sticking around way too long. “We have guys playing for six years,” he said. And that’s not all! At 53, Warner’s been vocal about player safety and how the league handles penalties around quarterbacks. He’s not afraid to ruffle feathers – even if it means calling out the NFL itself. Now, he’s doing it again. This time, he’s taking aim at how the league trains the quarterbacks. And he’s not sugarcoating a thing!

On Friday, Kurt Warner took to his X and said, “QB Trainers can we please stop doing the QB movement drills where we ask them to move for 5-6 seconds in 4-5 different directions, continually out of balance & position to throw!!! When are they ever going to do this in a game??” With this, Warner argues that these are unrealistic for game situations as QBs typically move once or twice before throwing from a balanced position.

Hence, to fix this issue, Kurt Warner suggested, “Have them move 1x, maybe 2x staying or coming to balance after each – so they are always playing QB! It’s a quick move, come to balance, throw position… don’t over think it, just to make it a drill!

Many QB coaches use multi-directional drills to build agility and endurance in the quarterbacks. But as per Kurt Warner, these drills can result in hindering proper throwing mechanics by keeping them out of balance too long. His perspective challenged this current training method, as he informed one of his fans that he has been “just seeing some training videos,” which prompted him to convey his thoughts.

And probably, that’s what he might have thought during his time of training. Nevertheless, the QB still was accurate in his throws past then. Now, many of us know Kurt Warner being one of the legends in the league. But perhaps a few know his real story – he could’ve been that guy bagging your groceries. Yes, that’s right!

Sometimes you gotta be the one to believe in yourself when no one else does!!” Hall of Famer and former quarterback Kurt Warner believes so, as he said this when recalling his tough phase before entering the NFL. Warner was passed over in the 1994 NFL draft. Although he did a tryout with the Packers, he was cut before the start of the season. This compelled him to stock shelves for minimum wage.

Despite that, Kurt Warner continued with his belief and practice for many years, until the 1999 Rams gave him a chance to prove it. And he did! Recording over 4,300 yards and 41 touchdowns, the man led the offense now known as “The Greatest Show on Turf.” And about his accuracy? He had an uncanny knack for being accurate, with a total NFL record of 32,344 yards and 208 TDs. And that’s what he wants to see in today’s QBs’ performance. Hence, the former athlete doesn’t want any unnecessary drills to hinder the throwing abilities of a QB, which may even lead to an injury. An injury, which hit Derek Carr this time!

Before Kurt Warner’s QB safety comments, Derek Carr faced another problem!

Kurt Warner always speaks out for the quarterback’s safety. He, too, got injured multiple times while playing, including at least four concussions and a broken hand. That’s why he understands what injury takes away from a QB. Like, the recent one is likely to take away the start of the next season for the Saints’ QB1.

Yes! As per the reports, following the first kickoff season training of the New Orleans Saints under new coach Kellen Moore, Carr’s status is now pretty clear. He is hit with a shoulder injury.

NFL Network’s Dianna Russini tweeted, “Derek Carr’s shoulder development did not come as a surprise to the Saints. Surgery is being contemplated as both sides analyze next steps for player and franchise. Carr carries a $20.4M cap hit in 2025.” This injury is now likely to impact his 2025 season. It may result in an opportunity loss for Carr and a QB loss for the team.

Nevertheless, if the reports are true, it would give the Saints a new opportunity to draft Shedeur Sanders at No.9. April and September are now crucial defining phase for 2025 for Moore’s team.
