Is the NFL becoming a political battleground with stars like Jerome Bettis taking sides?

Just like it’s NFL fever in the US right now, the country is shaping up for elections next month. With the race between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris heating up, multiple stars in the NFL have chosen their sides ahead of the presidential elections.

And joining them is Steelers legend Jerome Bettis, who posted on Threads expressing his support for Kamala Harris, thereby sending a strong message ahead of Donald Trump’s appearance in the Steelers game this Sunday. “There’s only one person in this race who fits that bill: Vice President Kamala Harris.” While speaking out in support of Kamala, Bettis was critical of Trump’s campaign in Pittsburgh, “Donald Trump has made promise after promise to the city of Pittsburgh, and time after time, he’s failed to deliver.”

He even called out Trump’s values, which apparently don’t match anyone living in Steel City, “I know this city, and I love this city. We work hard to make things happen. No hot air. No bull. This is what defines the Steel City. And it’s the opposite of what Donald Trump stands for.” Well, Bettis wasn’t the only one who expressed his support for Harris’ campaign ahead of this year’s elections.

As the family of former Steelers RB Franco Harris also joined in, “He would be greatly honored to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris because she shares this belief. She champions ideals my father stood for: improving education, building good jobs, supporting labor unions and making sure everyone gets a fair shake.” Before his untimely death in 2022, Franco Harris was always seen catching up with Democratic events. Therefore, his family announcing their endorsement of Kamala Harris isn’t surprising to some.

Although there are so many Steelers legends openly expressing their support for Kamala. There is one who is a die-hard supporter of Donald Trump as the 45-US President appears for a Steelers game for the first time in Pittsburgh.

Antonio Brown attends Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania

Antonio Brown, who has been an open supporter of Trump this campaign, made his dream come true when he appeared on stage campaigning for the Republican candidate. Being a vocal supporter of Trump, his appearance alongside him was long overdue, “I’ve never met him. I’ve got admiration for his business moves, and I study his dad, Fred Trump. But I think Donald Trump is a good businessman and comes from a good family and has been a good president.”

Getting a chance to speak on his campaign trail, Brown ensured he mocked the Harris campaign: “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, did you really know they want to put tampons in the boys’ bathroom? That’s really insane, right.” Well, this came from Tim Walz’s time as governor of Minnesota, when he earned the name of “Tampon Tim.” It was his decision to offer free tampons to every student in public schools, including males.

Have an interesting take?

Brown also took a jibe at Walz’s stint as assistant coach of the Mankato West High School football team, “And, by the way, Tampon Tim Walz, he isn’t a real football coach. He could never guard me. Business will be booming going against Tampon Tim Walz.” As the Steelers’ legends go their separate ways in supporting this year’s presidential candidates. This would surely come down to the wire. And seeing the twists and turns in campaigning before the election, it has a few surprises of its own, similar to the NFL every week.
