The Apple TV+ original The Dynasty: The New England Patriots has spoken volumes about the secretive New England Patriots. From villainizing the former head coach Bill Belichick to spilling the enigmatic facts about the top Patriots, the show aired it all. Fans did anticipate most of the drama and the almost-scandalous stories but what they did not expect was Tom Brady losing it over winning a video game.
The fact was as shocking to his teammates as well, especially David Nugent when he first moved in with Brady during his college days. The weekends were the highlights of Brady and his boys’ week. While they weren’t technically gamers, the boys went all out on the classic old Nintendo, especially Brady, who just was not ready to lose!

Tom Brady’s Tecmo Bowl craze
One Nintendo game was enough to awaken the always-win monster inside Brady, as Nugent reported. Tecmo Bowl is the football game in the old Nintendo system, something Tom Brady loved during his college days. In fact, the Tecmo competition would go on the whole weekend, and the loser’s penalty was to do the dishes in the summer. However, the losers of the winter weekends had it the worst as they had to run a lap around the cove, naked! Brady geared up to win, whether it was tackling the dare of running naked or owning the gridiron, even in the online arena. “If he was losing the game, he went from 0 to 100 very quickly. I mean he became a different person. He was just like a crazy man. He did not want to lose,” Nugent said on the new Dynasty episode.

Brady was so into the game that he even uncovered the loophole in it. Stomping loudly would restart the game, as Nugent said. So when Brady “knew he was about to lose, he won’t accept that, and he would stop on the floor and start the game over. This happened over and over again,” Nugent complained. The frustration of the roommates was a shared emotion, something that even Brady couldn’t deny.

Tom Brady admits his mistake
Even Brady agreed in unison with Nugent, admitting his almost insanity-edged drive to win the Tecmo Bowl. “I do have a bit of a temper. I didn’t like to lose and I didn’t like losing in the Tecmo Bowl,” Tom Brady said. “I still don’t like losing. If I’m gonna play, I’m gonna play to win.” It might be the reason why Brady collected some of the most Lombardi trophies in the pro league.

The instances of Brady losing his temper on the gridiron have been no secret. Be it arguing with Coach Belichick or yelling at his wide receivers on the sidelines. The after-effects of his temperament are seemingly carried to his post-retirement interviews as well, with his comment on the NFL being ‘mediocre’ setting the world ablaze or it could just be the ‘killer instinct’ he often references, what do you think? Would you play Tecmo Bowl if given the chance?
