The Kansas City Chiefs might be winning, but Travis Kelce is not. The team is 14-1 but their TE’s production numbers have been declining. For instance, he is the only one in the league with 75 receptions or more to be averaging less than 10 yards per catch. In fact, he isn’t even close to that cusp with his 8.4 yards per catch. Usually, Kelce would be averaging around 12-13 yards per catch, but this is the first season where he couldn’t hit the 10-yard mark. But this also isn’t a one-off case because last season, the stat fell to 10.6. Is it just a down year or a signal for him to retire?
Well, fans may be concerned, but the TE isn’t. On his ‘New Heights’ podcast in September, he stated, “I’ve had a lot of catches in this league, man. I’m not worried the catches and the yards and all of that. I have the most fun when I get the ball thrown my way, I mean, who doesn’t? It has everything to do with execution, making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games, man.”
Regardless, many people have complete faith in him. One such person is Rob Gronkowski, who simply won’t buy into the negative narrative.

Reflecting on Travis Kelce‘s season and career, Gronk passionately defended the Chiefs’ superstar and stated, “Those two together [Mahomes and Kelce], they are an unstoppable duo. And it’s a different situation actually from Tom [Brady] and I because Tom was the quarterback that was ten years older than me and was the young buck. That’s usually the situation when it comes to a wide receiver-quarterback duo. Or about the same age. And then, this one is difference because Travis is so much older than Patrick Mahomes. About six-seven year.”
Gronkowski is right here. While Kelce is 35, Mahomes is 29 and so, Gronkowski felt it was unusual to see such great chemistry with a QB so much younger.
Rob Gronkowski further stated about Kelce, “I believe he can go at least another two years. The guy has 85+ catches this year. We are talking about his stats being down? Are you kidding me? 80+ catches this year. How are your stats down is you have 80+ catches at 35 years old. I think I had only 80+ catches only one time in my career and I was 22 years old and I had 90 catches that year. All the other years, I was like 50-70 catches. So that 80+, I mean, he is the security blanket…”
What is his prediction for Travis Kelce? “… I believe that he can have at least 70+ catches over the next two seasons,” Gronkowski confidently stated.

However, it isn’t the first time he said great things about the Chiefs star. Back in October, Gronkowski couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if they ever played together. “We would compliment each other unbelievably and I would say that we would have been one of the best duos to play, if we’d played with each other,” Gronkowski said with excitement. “We would’ve broken records.”
What did Kelce have to say about this? He took to X and wrote, “Dudes …. Same Team!?!? Would be unfair!! Just imagined myself lateraling the ball down field to @RobGronkowski.”
That being said, is Travis Kelce thinking about retirement? Well, he has certainly dropped some hints…

Travis Kelce has had football fans buzzing with retirement rumors after his emotional homecoming game in Cleveland. Speaking on the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason last week, the Kansas City Chiefs star reflected on what might be his final appearance in his hometown.
“It kind of felt like I was giving it one last hurrah before I’m done,” Kelce shared. Growing up just outside Cleveland, he reminisced about his deep love for the city, saying, “I just love that city, man. Every monument, every building… I have such a love and appreciation for how we grew up.”
While Kelce hasn’t made anything official, he has hinted at the clock ticking on his NFL career, referencing Tony Gonzalez’s 210-game career and admitting, “I don’t know if I can play 40 more!”

Retirement, however, doesn’t mean slowing down for Travis Kelce. Reports suggest he is dreaming of a quieter life with pop superstar Taylor Swift, potentially stepping into the role of her supportive house husband. Kelce’s decade-long NFL grind has him ready to prioritize personal happiness, with whispers of an engagement adding to the speculation. But hey, we will have to wait longer for a confirmation from the couple.
