Mother Nature is the most beautifully unpredictable thing there is. And right now, sadly, Los Angeles is right in the thick of its unpredictability. Wildfires are raging through the city, and the “dance of wind and fire”, while it may sound poetic—it’s devastating. These aren’t your average brushfires either. The Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires are tearing through thousands of acres, fueled by Santa Ana winds strong enough to make you double-check your roof. It’s a tough time for LA, and the city could use all the help it can get. Enter Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.

Yep, the former Patriots stars turned podcast hosts are stepping up. They put their Dudes on Dudes podcast on hold this week due to the fires. “Our hearts are with the people of Los Angeles,” they announced. And honestly, how often do you see two retired NFL legends turning their platform into a PSA? They didn’t stop there either—praising firefighters and first responders, urging fans to donate, and reminding everyone to stay safe. It’s the kind of teamwork we loved seeing on the field. Now? They know they can make a difference off it.

While we are talking about the podcast getting to a halt, we can’t forget they talk about football on there. Right? I mean, that’s the major talking point. And currently, the league is huddling up to figure out what to do with Monday night’s Wild Card clash at SoFi Stadium. Rams versus Vikings—it’s the playoffs, folks!

But with air quality plummeting and safety concerns mounting, the league might have to call an audible and move the game to Arizona. Remember when Hurricane Katrina moved a Saints game to New York? Yeah, it’s that kind of contingency planning. Meanwhile, fans are on edge, waiting to see if their Monday night plans will get sacked.

But we haven’t forgotten the iron. While Edelman and Gronk are out here supporting LA, their old stomping grounds in Foxborough are spiraling. Jerod Mayo just got the axe, and Patriots fans are dealing with chaos straight out of a poorly executed trick play. Gronk might be nostalgic for his Pats days. But trust me, even he’s probably breathing a sigh of relief that he’s not in that mess.

Is Rob Gronkowski a ride-and-die for Jerod Mayo?

Alright, let’s huddle up because Rob Gronkowski just called an audible on the Patriots’ latest move. Ever since they yanked Jerod Mayo as an HC, after just one season, Gronk’s not been thrilled. During his FOX segment, he called the firing “unfair,” saying Mayo never got the chance to develop. “He was just a rookie himself in that department,” Gronk argued, clearly upset for his former teammate.

Gronk and Edelman stepping up for LA—are they setting a new standard for athlete activism?

Have an interesting take?

But even he knows, he can’t keep beating around the same bush because it seems like too much backing now. Yes! They shared the gridiron. However, at this rate, he might just be making the fans second guess about where his loyalty lies. Guess that’s why Gronk threw two names into the ring for replacement: Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson.

First up, Vrabel. This guy’s no stranger to the Patriots. A former linebacker and now Titans head coach, he’s got a solid track record, including three playoff appearances in six seasons. His rookie coaching year alone ended with a 9-7 record—impressive compared to Mayo’s 4-13 season. Gronk didn’t hold back: “Mr. Kraft must feel like there’s a better option out there, and a guy like Mike Vrabel… did a great job.”

And then there’s Ben Johnson, the Lions’ offensive coordinator, who’s been dazzling the league with his creative play-calling. Under Johnson, Detroit’s offense has been a juggernaut, ranking 4th in points per game in 2024, up from 18th in 2021. Gronk hyped him up too, saying, “What he’s doing with the Detroit Lions and that offense is spectacular.”

But Gronk knows it’s no easy task, especially after what Mayo left with—or lack thereof. Left with nothing for the rookie QB Drake Maye right now. It was mature of Rob to even muster the strength to say these names. However, the real question here shouldn’t be about the Pats’ future because Kraft’s already on the lookout, but if Gronk is accepting this phase after Mayo? Jokes aside, he’s wiser than this. He knows that to prevent a dynasty from completely falling apart, some changes must be made.
