According to Pro Football Reference’s rankings, White has been the most valuable defensive player in the entirety of the NFL, ever since his debut. He debuted in 1985 and soon climbed to the league’s heights as one of the best pass rushers while still being a rookie in the game. When he retired in 2000, he was the NFL’s all-time career leader in the number of sacks, with 198, but the record has been beaten now. Additionally, players like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, and Fran Tarkenton are the only few who are listed above White, who is currently tied with Aaron Rodgers for the No. 7 spot of all time. But while he’s had a masterclass career in terms of records and stats, he has also been a player who has stood up for his beliefs, and 9 years after his death, it’s evident that he had a huge impact on his fans.

In 1992, White was one of the fundamental members of a group of players that sued the league for their violation of antitrust laws through their limited free agency. After that, the NFL officially carried out full free agency for the first time, and as a result, White became one of the most prominent players on the market. Moreover, White was an ordained Baptist member, which is how he got his famous nickname, the Minister of Defense. A wall on the field but a man of god back at home, Reggie White will be a name that will be etched on the tip of all football fans for years to come. Here’s a look at how fans expressed their birthday wishes for the late Hall of Famer.
