Colin Kaepernick, the former QB for the San Francisco 49ers, is a ‘player’ at the pinnacle of his fame right now. The 35-year-old free agent has been making all the headlines ever since he’s been trying to come back to the NFL this season. Kaepernick was allegedly released from the 49ers in 2016 over political disagreements between him and the league and thus, has been a free agent ever since.

Kaepernick started to regain popularity when he sent a letter to the New York Jets following Aaron Rodgers‘ tragic Achilles injury. In his letter, he requested the team to let him replace the injured QB and join the team’s practice squad but unfortunately, the Jets refused his offer. Instead, they chose to move on and depend on Zach Wilson while Kaepernick is right where he started and continues to exist as proof of the war that took place between him and the NFL 7 years ago.

In 2016, the 49ers released Kaepernick from the squad due to the reasons of him not fitting the plans of the team’s future. But it was quite obvious to the fans that the QB was released because of his controversial stand on the field. Kaepernick would take the knee in solidarity with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement right before the American national anthem. The NFL didn’t approve of him involving his political beliefs on the field and ultimately, decided to let him go.

Kaepernick was not pleased with the move at all and decided to sue the NFL on the grounds of being a victim of racism. The case went on for 2 years before both parties finally decided to settle and the NFL gave hush money to Kaepernick as a settlement for taking his case back. The settlement indicated to most people that Kaepernick wouldn’t ever have anything to do with the NFL ever again but here we are, 7 years later, talking about the man who defeated the NFL and is now back asking for a job.

What’s ironic to see is Kaepernick has made his views about the NFL absolutely clear. He’s compared the NFL to ‘slavery’, an extremely serious allegation that makes it seem like the league exploits their black players. Even if it were true, why does Kaepernick still care so desperately about making a comeback to the field? If he is actually passionate about football, there are plenty of other Kickstarter leagues like XFL that would give him an opportunity to showcase his talent. Yet, it seems like he wants to stay at the head of the trending topics as he continues to defame the NFL in an effort to join a team.

Colin Kaepernick and the career he threw away

People talk a lot about Kaepernick and how he was an exceptional player who would’ve gone on to achieve great things if not for the controversy. But the truth of the matter is, that Kaepernick was never the star of the 49ers. Even when the incident took place, Kaepernick was one of the players who were benched for their poor performance. Thus, there’s no doubt about the fact that Kaepernick wasn’t a QB that matched the skillsets of players like Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, etc.

After his release and the settlement that took place, Kaepernick got another shot at redeeming himself and getting to play football again. In 2019, he got a chance from the NFL to come and shoot a workout video with the Atlanta Falcons, which later could be sent to all 32 teams. Unfortunately, Kaepernick didn’t show up for the shoot and disappointed the fans as well as the league that gave him another shot at redemption.

This sounds like the signs of a player who wanted to be in the spotlight for attention at all costs. After throwing a fit about suggestively being a slave in the NFL, what was going through his head when he threw the shot with the Falcons away? By the way, he?was getting paid 16 million dollars a year, and comparing that to the massive atrocities that his ancestors faced is a disgrace to them as well.

Will Kaepernick see a future in the NFL ever again?

Currently, as of now, Kaepernick doesn’t have any offers on the table from any of the 32 NFL teams. Recently, he was put on the negotiation list for the BC Lions, a team in the Canadian Football League, which could potentially mean good news for the former quarterback. The fans have been divided over the situation of Kaepernick and whether he should return or not. But one thing’s for sure, Kaepernick is not a player of the sport anymore.

With the sort of horrendous allegations he made against the NFL, it’s a surprise that he’s still being considered to play for any team. Kaepernick could’ve been a hero when he chose to walk out of the NFL. Instead, he sued the NFL, won the case, and came back to ask them for a job. This doesn’t make sense even outside of the NFL.

Kaepernick has had a controversial career so far and with the things he has to say, he definitely isn’t making things better for himself. Maybe he’ll get a shot with an NFL team this season but it’s difficult to say when since there’s still a lot of tension that revolves around his name right now. The fans definitely want to see him make a return to the field to see what he has to bring to the field after a 7-year hiatus.
