Not everyone believed in Brady’s capabilities when he was first drafted. Quarterback Drew Bledsoe referred to Brady as, “an eager little puppy,” who’s always super positive, and at times “annoyingly so.” Which would lead to his teammates pranking him “a little bit.” Brady reminisced about his rookie days, recalling a prank where Bledsoe, as part of a rookie initiation, placed a purple dye used by the FBI in Brady’s socks. This otherwise invisible dye is usually used in bank robbery threats and turns pigmented only after getting moist.
Unaware of the prank, Brady practiced for two hours until he noticed the purple dye seeping through his shoes. Upon discovering the source of the discoloration, Brady had to endure weeks of his feet resembling “Barney the Dinosaur” before finally managing to remove the stubborn stain with rigorous scrubbing. However, Brady took it on the stride revealing that it was moments like these that helped him “grow up.”
